Although we sell most of our veg on site to visitors, we also occasionally supply our friend Herbivore vegan catering with veg for their pop-up nights in different local eateries. They recently did a 3-night 7-course menu at Bacareto in the centre of Cardiff so Fiona and Alastair decided to go and see (and taste) what they do with our stuff. It was lush (and Field days Organic Horticulture Project got a mention in the menu :)

Aaaaaand this is what we've been doing over the second half of the summer. There have been lots and lots of very sweet tomatoes due to the hot weather and everything else has grown ok with careful watering. The runner beans did suffer a bit through lack of water but bounced back with vigour as soon as there had been a bit of rain!

Spring at Field Days Organic
Well, we were going to try and give regular updates on work on the Project but unfortunately illness and injury have left the staffing side a bit short of time until now to manage this although we've carried on working with Participants all the way through (except a week or so when we all had Covid!). I'll do a quick catch-up and post a selection of pics , one from the Spring and one from the Summer.

Happy New Year all! This year we're going to try and post monthly picture updates so that you can see how the work that we do and the site changes through the seasons.
In January we have, aside from some potting up, shifting compost and wood chippings, dividing plants and weeding, spent much of our time cutting back hedges and making fences.
To make the fences we use the Hazel and Willow that we've been cutting back and weave it into hurdles, so we're only using materials which are growing immediately around us and which we had to cut back anyway, which is very satisfying.

Christmas Decorations
As usual at this time of year , with less horticultural work to do, we get a bit festive and make Christmas Decorations using hedge trimmings and other natural materials from around our site at the Amelia Trust Farm (ok, and a quick trip to the craft shop!). Everyone gets a chance to make things to take home and we take the rest down to the Farm Kitchen Cafe where they are available to buy.

Let's get you all up-to-date with what we've been doing - I'll post bunches of photos from the past 3 seasons so you can see how we've been keeping on top of all the jobs that need doing while we've had only a fraction of the usual amount of people onsite.
Hopefully as the weather gets warmer into next year, restrictions will gradually relax and we'll return to our usual numbers of people on site :)
This first set of pics are from the spring of 2021

Our Project
Field Days Organic is a Horticulture and Market Garden project run by Innovate Trust at the Amelia Trust Farm in the Vale of Glamorgan. It is a busy and integrated site where participants develop the gardens and grow plants and vegetables for sale to visitors whilst benefitting from both formal and informal skills training and from the positive physical, social and psychological theraputic aspects that gardening can provide.
