In case you missed it, we carried out scientific tests to prove our bedding is as absorbent as we say it is and it’s safe to say the results have been AMAZING!

Not only did we outperform the next closest bedding brand by 17%, Wood & Slumber bedding was a whopping 73% more absorbent than the worst performing competitor.

Huge congratulations to our sponsored rider Katie Reilly Dressage Para-Rider, who has been selected to represent Team Ireland at the FEI Para Dressage World Championship in Aachen next month with the brilliant Keystone Dawn Chorus (Lottie). 💚

It's been an incredible few months for Katie and Lottie, with a fantastic Grade III CPEDI3* victory at Wellington International, strong performances at Hartpury and Katie's involvement in the Paralympics Ireland Aspire Programme for emerging para athletes.

To now see all that hard work rewarded with selection for one of the biggest championships in the para dressage calendar is so well deserved.

We're incredibly proud to support Katie on her journey and can't wait to cheer her and Team Ireland on in Aachen.

🌲 Why do we use pine and spruce? 🌲

👍 Help stop bacteria growing: Studies show that pine and spruce effectively inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi, making them ideal for maintaining a highly hygienic stable.

👍 And it can also control ammonia! Pine releases natural oils that help suppress the conversion of urine into ammonia, protecting horses from respiratory issues like equine asthma.

👍 It’s soft and comfy too: Softwood shavings like spruce and pine provide a bed that’s springy underfoot to help cushion joints and encourage horses to lie down.

Following our independent absorbency test, Wood & Slumber absorbed an impressive 336.7ml from just 75g of bedding - outperforming four other leading shavings brands.

Here's how the average results compared:

🥇 Wood & Slumber: 336.7ml absorbed
🥈 Second place: 288.3ml
🥉 Third place: 268.3ml
4️⃣ Fourth place: 211.7ml
5️⃣ Fifth place: 195ml

To ensure accurate results, exactly 75g of each bedding was tested with 500ml of water, with the experiment repeated three times before calculating the average absorbency.

Rest days are essential for our horses and it’s important that you don’t see them as optional. Their body (and ours too, actually) doesn’t build muscle or get stronger during a workout, it’s actually breaking down tissues. The rest days are when the body repairs those micro-tears and replenishes energy stores.

If you skip rest days you’re putting your horse on a path to injuries, fatigue and poorer results - so let them have those days off to snooze, graze and be a horse! 💤🌱🐴

⚖️ We've taken the exact same weight of shavings from each brand - 75g.

💧 We then add the same amount of water - 500ml - to the sample from each brand.

⏱️ They were left for the exact same amount of time before we…

🧪Measured how much water was absorbed and how much was left behind.

3️⃣ Then, we’ve repeated the test three times to get an average of the data to work from!

That way, if one of the samples was an anomaly - i.e. it had been exposed to damp or something else that had impacted the absorbency - we’ve had two more chances to test a normal batch.
