WWC WEEKEND ROUNDUP πŸ†

Another fantastic weekend of running, with plenty of miles, milestones and achievements to celebrate. Well done, everyone! πŸ‘

🌳 PARKRUN

We had an amazing 46 club members taking part across 7 different parkruns this weekend!

A couple of very special milestones to celebrate:

πŸ… Audrey Crosthwaite completed her 400th parkrun!

πŸ… Andrew Hemsley completed his 250th parkrun!

Huge congratulations to you both. That’s some serious dedication! πŸ‘

πŸ’œ STRIDE AGAINST SU***DE

What an incredible turnout for such an important cause!

32 Cheetahs took part, completing a whopping 210 laps between them. With each lap measuring 2.5km, that’s an incredible combined total of 525km! πŸ€―πŸ‘

A special mention to Trevor Turner and Kieran Ireland, who completed an impressive 10 laps each! That’s 25km apiece!

And congratulations to WWC Team 3 – Melissa Caine, Andrew Leece, Alison Coward and Carol Park, who won the team prize for the most laps completed by a four person team! πŸ†

A brilliant effort from everyone involved, supporting a cause that really matters. πŸ’œ

Thank you to Keith, once again, for the brilliant photos. β€οΈπŸ‘

⛰️ KESWICK HALF MARATHON

A huge well done to Chris Richardson, who tackled the hilly Keswick Half Marathon, complete with a lung busting 1,496ft of elevation, finishing in a fantastic 2:06:41! πŸ‘ Certainly not one for anyone looking for a flat, easy Sunday morning run! πŸ˜‚

Another weekend showing exactly what WWC is all about. Supporting one another, celebrating achievements and getting out there together.

πŸ† WWC PRESENTATION NIGHT 2026! πŸ†πŸŽ‰

What a fantastic night celebrating our wonderful club and the achievements of our members!

It was brilliant to see everyone together, enjoying themselves and celebrating another great year of running, friendships and everything that makes WWC such a special club.

A huge thank you to our committee for all the hard work that went into organising the evening, to Chris and Oscar for providing the tunes and keeping us entertained, and to Keith for capturing the night with his photos! πŸ“Έ

Congratulations to all our award winners! πŸ†πŸ‘
As we always say, it’s the people who make WWC special, and last night was another perfect reminder of that.

Here’s to another fantastic year, Cheetahs!

While those lot were enjoying the sunshine, Joe Horsley chose something slightly less sensible… πŸ˜‚

Joe completed The Lap – Anticlockwise on Saturday in absolutely horrendous weather, covering a whopping 46.50 miles, with 9,262ft of ascent, in 12 hours 19 minutes! πŸ€―β›°οΈπŸŒ§οΈ

An incredible achievement and some serious determination to keep going in those conditions. Massive congratulations, Joe! πŸ‘

A big thank you to our Run Leaders who stayed behind in Barrow and made sure it was business as usual back home! πŸ™Œ Thanks to them, our Couch to 5K Week 3 session, continuous run AND track session could all still go ahead despite so many Cheetahs heading to Ulverston πŸ–€πŸ’›

MEET OUR NEW ASSISTANT RUN LEADERS πŸ†

A huge congratulations to Paula, Lynne, Paula, Gemma, Steph, Karen, Charlotte, Bill and Craig who all completed their Assistant Run Leader training tonight and are now joining our Cheetah Run Leader team! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰

They spent the evening learning more about supporting our sessions, keeping groups safe and together, warm ups and cool downs, encouraging runners and dealing with the various things that can crop up on a run.

Most importantly, they’ve volunteered to give up some of their own time to help keep our sessions friendly, safe, supportive and inclusive for everyone and we’re incredibly grateful to have them on board!

Please give our newest Assistant Run Leaders a big Cheetah welcome!

πŸ† COUCH TO 5K β€” WEEK 1 COMPLETE! βœ…

That’s Session 2 done and Week 1 officially in the bag! πŸ–€πŸ’›

Tonight our C25Kers completed:

πŸƒ 1 minute jogging
🚢 4 minutes walking
πŸ” Repeated throughout the session

And they absolutely smashed it! πŸ‘

Tonight’s group covered around 2.5 miles in total, which is a fantastic effort for the very first week of the programme. Remember, this isn’t about pace or how far anyone can run. Right now it’s simply about getting moving, taking those first steps and building up gradually each week.

Unfortunately everyone made a suspiciously quick getaway at the end tonight before I remembered to take a group photo. πŸ˜‚πŸ“Έ

So the Strava evidence will have to do!

Clearly everyone knew a photo was coming and made a tactical early exit. πŸ˜‚ Nice try… I’ll be quicker next week! πŸ“Έ

Whether you joined us for one session this week or both, well done! You’ve started, and that’s the hardest bit. πŸ’ͺ

Next week we build on it. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸ† AND THEY’RE OFF!… WELCOME TO OUR NEW COUCH TO 5K CREW! πŸ–€πŸ’›

A massive WELL DONE to everyone who joined us tonight for the first session of our brand new Couch to 5K programme! πŸ‘πŸ‘

For some of you, simply turning up tonight was probably the hardest part, but you did it, and then you absolutely smashed Session One! πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

There were plenty of smiles, lots of encouragement and some brilliant running. Most importantly, everyone worked at their own pace, supported each other and got those first running intervals in the bag. βœ…

Tonight might only have been the beginning, but every single person in this photo has just taken that first step towards running 5K. πŸ₯°

A huge welcome to the Walney Wind Cheetahs family, we hope you’re ready for the journey! πŸ†πŸ–€πŸ’›

and remember…

Slow it down. Keep turning up. Trust the programme.

We’ll take care of the whistles πŸ˜‚πŸ“£

πŸ† YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO IT ALONE πŸ–€πŸ’›

For our final Couch to 5K story before the new programme begins tonight, we hear from Julie, who completed our last C25K earlier this year. πŸ…

Julie joined the programme alongside a friend so they could encourage and support each other. While her friend attended both sessions each week, Julie could only make our Wednesday evening sessions, another great reminder that you don’t have to attend twice a week to take part. ❀️

Here’s what Julie had to say:

β€œI joined Couch to 5K with a friend and we decided we were going to support each other through it.

I was only able to attend the Wednesday sessions each week, but the support I received was brilliant. I regularly had a run leader alongside me who encouraged me, kept me going and helped me achieve times I was really proud of.

I was also introduced to using interval timers, which became really valuable when I wanted to train by myself between sessions.

The camaraderie throughout the programme was fantastic. Everyone supported and encouraged each other, whatever pace we were running.

We both achieved the goals we’d set ourselves and were incredibly proud to finally have those Couch to 5K medals around our necks. πŸ₯‡

WWC is a brilliant running club with fantastic coaches, run leaders and runners. My advice to anyone thinking about joining is simple, just come along and enjoy it! πŸ₯°β€

And Julie certainly kept running after C25K! She has now completed an incredible 94 parkruns! πŸ€©πŸ‘

Just six more until the big 100! πŸ’―πŸ‘€

Another brilliant example that Couch to 5K isn’t necessarily the end goal. Sometimes it’s just the beginning. πŸ†β€οΈ

And tonight, we get to start that journey all over again with a brand new group.

If you’ve been reading these stories and thinking β€œmaybe I could do it…”

Come and find out.

You don’t have to be fast.
You don’t have to make every session.
You don’t have to already be a runner.

You just have to turn up. We’ll do the rest together. πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸ†
