🏏 THE VALKYRIES’ FIRST SENIOR GAME! 🏏

Tonight, the Valkyries played their first-ever senior game against Featherstone Ladies — and what a performance it was! 💙

Every single player gave an incredible account of themselves, resulting in an outstanding 200 runs with the bat and an impressive 10 wickets with the ball! 🔥👏

What makes this performance even more special is that the team have only been training together for 7 weeks. The effort, commitment and dedication they have shown throughout those seven weeks has been fantastic, and tonight they showed just how far they have come.

Every player should be incredibly proud of themselves. This is just the beginning, and the future looks very exciting for the Valkyries! 💪🏏

A massive shout-out to our coaches, Elliott and Jono, who have put so much time, effort and enthusiasm into building this team over the last seven weeks. The progress the girls have made in such a short space of time is a huge credit to the work they have both put in. 👏💙

We go again next week, away at Featherstone, looking to build on tonight’s outstanding performance.

Well done, Valkyries — what a start! 💙🏏

This week the (In Memory of Pat Elvidge) 1st XI travelled to Hemsworth Miners Welfare CC, unfortunately, no result was possible with the rain getting the better of us just 17 overs into the match, 2 wickets from Ricky Crompton (ICECO & Storelogs) and 1 from HP Keegan (In memory of Pat Elvidge) weren't quite enough to earn a bonus point, so we take 5 points and remain in 2nd place.

next week we host our final home game, as we take on Calder Grove.

South Kirkby CCC 2nd XI secured a convincing 8-wicket victory over St Chad’s Broomfield CC

St Chad’s Broomfield won the toss and elected to bat, but South Kirkby’s bowlers quickly put them under pressure. David Hill (Available to sponsor) led the attack with an excellent 4/16 from 8 overs, while Matthew Browster (AH Vehicle Prep & Storage LTD) claimed 3/9 from 10 overs. Jonathan Downing (Carol Buckley in Memory of Mick Buckley) also impressed with 2/13 as St Chad’s were bowled out for 67 in 35.1 overs.

South Kirkby made light work of the chase, reaching 68/2 in just 17.3 overs. Dominic Bedford (S Norman) finished unbeaten on 21, while Olly Browster (In Memory of Steve Wray) smashed 19 from just 20 balls*, including a six. Joe Fairhurst (11 St Johns, Whitby) contributed 15 and Joe Leadbetter (Available to sponsor) made 7.
A professional all-round performance from South Kirkby, with the bowlers setting up the victory before the batters calmly completed the job.
South Kirkby CC 68/2 beat St Chad’s Broomfield CC 67 all out by 8 wickets. 🏏💙

This week the (In memory of Pat Elvidge) 1st Xi travelled to Sykehouse to face Fenwick, Skipper Nick Crooks ( Minsthorpe Hotel The Nags + Dave & Di Crooks) won the toss and elected to field.
After a steady start from the Fenwick openers, HP Keegan (In Memory Of Pat Elvidge) and Ricky Crompton (ICECO & Storelogs) both struck in quick succession to leave us on top early on with the score at 25-2. Ricky would strike once more but it would be the introduction of Liam Rollin (Andy Rollin) that would really blow the game open as the hosts would fall from 57-4 to 88 all out, with Liam absolutely blowing away their batting lineup, as he took 6 wickets in no time and put us in the driving seat heading into the chase.

The standouts with the ball were:
Liam Rollin: 6.5 overs 6-4
HP Keegan: 10 overs 2-27

Now time for the chase and although it wasn't the most threatening total, it was never going to be easy on a spicy surface that was doing plenty.
2 Openers Dale Woolsey (Infinity Funerals) and Reece Slater( AH Vehicle Logistics LTD) got us off to a solid start, batting sensibly and making life a lot easier for the rest of the team. A few question marks would creep in when 3 wickets fell in quick succession to leave the score at 48-3. It would be well and truly game on when 14 runs later 2 more wickets would fall in consecutive overs, to leave the score at 62-5, still 27 runs away from victory and faced with a very similar predicament to last week. HP and Elliott Secker ( The Cleaning Academy) at the crease now and it would be Elliott with a few quick boundaries, who would take the game away from Fenwick and see Kirkby over the line as the pair saw the job through without the loss of another wicket as we finished 89-5 from 26.1 overs.

The standout performers with the bat being:
Dale Woolsey 27(49)
Elliott Secker 18(9)*

A 3rd win on the spin for the 1s who are now just 1 point behind Askern in 1st, Next week were on the road again, as we travel to Hemsworth in a local affair.
