There can’t be many classes where punching is taught and encouraged…but this is one of them! Here you can see one of the summer classes demonstrating ‘Punching’, which is Form 14 from Shibashi Set 1.
Sometimes called ‘Punching with Outstretched Arms’, ‘Punching with Angry Eyes’, or ‘Punching with Steady Gaze’, it’s important in this Form that we keep the fists soft, as it’s not actually about fighting. Instead, this movement helps to stimulate the liver meridian where the negative emotions and energy associated with frustration and anger can get trapped. This stimulation releases that old stagnant energy (Qi) and increases our inner strength and overall vitality.
