π₯ SLUGGERS PUSH NEPTUNES ALL THE WAY IN EXTRA-INNINGS THRILLER π₯
Scrabo Sluggers travelled to Newtownabbey Neptunesβ new home ground on Thursday for the final league game before the divisional split.
The Sluggers started strongly, scoring two runs in the opening inning while holding the Neptunes to just one.
π Another rookie debut!
Chris Orr made his Sluggers league debut early in the third inning, with captain Pete Maxwell stepping out to give the clubβs newest recruit his well-earned opportunity.
Chris becomes the fifth Sluggers rookie to make their league debut this season!
Pitcher Sarah returned to the lineup following her injury on Sunday and produced a solid performance, including several strikeouts and a fly catch of her own.
The Sluggersβ infield was kept busy, with Alan and Niomi producing some brilliant solo outs, while Marcus and Dawn linked up well to secure several outs at first.
In the outfield, Joanne and Chrissy made multiple stops, while Oliver and Adam launched absolute cannons back towards the infield to slow runners and prevent further runs.
The Sluggers led 12β7 heading into the seventh inning, but smart batting and aggressive base running saw the Neptunes fight back to level the game at 12β12.
That sent the Sluggers into extra innings for the first time since the team was formed.
The Neptunes showed why they are one of the leagueβs top sides, holding their nerve and scoring the run needed to secure a dramatic 13β12 victory after eight innings.
Captain Pete Maxwell said:
βIt goes down as a loss, but thatβs the best game we have played all season. To see how the team has developed and to test the Neptunes the way we did was fantastic. We wish Barry, Alex and the rest of the team the best of luck for the rest of their season.β
After the game, Pete and Neptunes co-captain Barry were seen laughing together and promising not to put each other through that much stress again next season! π
β Sluggers MVPs
π Male MVP β Alan
π Female MVP β Niomi
A heartbreaking result, but a fantastic performance and plenty for the Sluggers to be proud of! πͺπ₯

Sluggers Show Serious Fight at Ward Park πͺπ₯
Scrabo Sluggers welcomed Lisburn Eagles to Ward Park as the Division B fixtures move closer to the league split.
The Eagles came out flying, scoring 15 runs across the opening two innings and leaving the Sluggers with a big hill to climb. Things got even tougher early on, with Sarah having to leave the game after taking a ball to the head. Thankfully, sheβs doing well and weβre glad to say sheβll be back in the line-up soon. π
Pete Maxwell also made his return from an ankle injury, only to aggravate the same ankle during the game. With no male subs left, Pete battled on with an ice pack strapped to his ankle, what proper Sluggers spirit!
Despite the setbacks, the Sluggers didnβt let their heads drop. They kept chipping away at the Eaglesβ lead and produced some brilliant defensive moments across the field.
One of the highlights came from Adam Clarke in left centre, who fired the ball in to Marcus at shortstop. Marcus then launched an absolute cannon to Pete at home plate, making the tag and stopping a home run, a play that had the NDSC sideline cheering! π
The final score finished 25β14 to Lisburn Eagles, but the Sluggers can be proud of the fight, teamwork and improvement they showed throughout the game.
MVPs went to Marcus and Chrissy, well deserved! π
Onwards and upwards, Sluggers! π₯π

π₯ BUCS COMEBACK FOR THE BOOKS π₯
The Buccaneers travelled to Victoria Park to take on the Cyclones, and for the first four inningsβ¦ letβs just say it was not looking pretty.
The Bucs scored just 1 run across the opening four innings:
1, 0, 0, 0.
But then came the turning point.
A swift change brought Buccaneers veteran Martin Taylor into the game, and with the terrifying threat that the homemade top hat buns might be given to the Cyclones instead of the Bucs, something suddenly clicked. π
From innings 5, 6 and 7, the Buccaneers went absolutely wild, scoring a mighty 26 runs to turn the game completely on its head.
There were huge second, third and home run hits right across the team as the Bucs bats finally came alive.
A massive shoutout also goes to debutant Buccaneers player Georgina, who had a fantastic game, scoring 2 runs and adding an RBI in her first outing for the Bucs. Brilliant debut! π
The defence stepped up massively too. In the last four innings, the Bucs allowed the Cyclones just 5 runs combined. The infield was tight, the outfield was just as impressive, and there were multiple fly catches to keep the pressure on.
What started as a bad day at the office turned into one of the great Buccaneers comebacks.
Final Score:
Cyclones 16 β 27 Buccaneers
MVPs:
Female MVP: Lisa Wallace
Male MVP: Simon McLean
Up the Bucs! π₯π₯

π₯ BARRACUDAS POWER PAST ANGELS WITH DOMINANT ALL-ROUND DISPLAY π₯
The Barracudas put on a brilliant performance at both the plate and in the field as they came away with a commanding 25β7 victory over the Angels.
From the very first inning, the Cudas set the tone defensively. A sharp relay between Matty Connor and Naomi Connor secured the first out, before Naomi linked up with Charlene McCartney for the second. Will Gilpin then finished the inning in style with a strikeout to shut the Angels down early.
The bats backed it up straight away, with the Barracudas scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first to take control of the game.
The defence stayed locked in during the second inning too. Adam Norman took an excellent fly catch, Will Gilpin and Danny McCartney combined on a strong relay play, and Will added another strikeout to end the threat. The Cudas then added another run to make it 5β0.
The Angels fought back in the third, putting 5 runs on the board to level things up, but the Barracudas stayed calm and composed. Danny McCartney made a routine play for the first out, Matty Connor took a fly catch for the second, and Will Gilpin struck out another batter to stop the rally in its tracks.
Then the Cudas answered in the best way possible.
The bottom of the third saw the Barracudas pile on 6 runs, with Adam Norman smashing a triple and Ali Steenwyk adding a double. The whole lineup showed patience and pressure at the plate, forcing the Angels to work for every out.
Defensively, the Barracudas continued to shine. Will Gilpin added yet another strikeout, while Adam Norman and Matty Connor both took important fly catches as the Angels were limited to just 2 runs in the fourth.
The Barracudas then blew the game wide open, adding another 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Doubles from Adam Norman, Matty Connor, Marc Taylor, Charlene McCartney and Will Gilpin helped build a lead the Angels simply couldnβt claw back.
Any hopes of a comeback were shut down in the fifth, with Naomi Connor fielding cleanly for the first out before Adam Norman and Matty Connor both completed fly catches to retire the side.
And the Cudas werenβt done yet.
In their final at-bat, they finished in style with 8 more runs. Marc Taylor launched a home run, Adam Norman added another double, and disciplined batting from Matty Connor, Carrie Webb, Will Gilpin and Charlene McCartney helped keep the scoreboard ticking over.
A huge performance from Will Gilpin on the mound with 5 strikeouts, an outstanding all-round display from Adam Norman with a triple, two doubles and several key defensive plays, and a big home run from Marc Taylor capped off a brilliant team performance.
MVPs were awarded to Matty Connor and Naomi Connor β very well deserved! π
Final Score:
Barracudas 25 β 7 Angels
A dominant win, a full-team performance, and another big result for the Barracudas. π₯π₯
