It is with great sadness that Banchory Amateurs Football Club learned of the passing of John Wink.

John(The Stag Hotel)was a valued sponsor and a great supporter of our club, and his contribution to Banchory Amateurs meant so much to everyone involved. His generosity, encouragement and belief in the club helped us both on and off the pitch, and we are incredibly grateful for everything he did for us.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with John's family, friends and all those who knew and loved him at this incredibly difficult time.

Banchory started the match brightly, controlling the early possession and creating a few chances from open play before opening the scoring from a corner. Cammie Strachan’s delivery found Nathan Davidson free at the back post, and he rose highest to head home and make it 0-1.

Banchory continued to control the tempo and doubled their advantage on 18 minutes with an excellent team goal. Great work down the left from Kris Cocker saw him deliver an accurate cross into the box, where Cammie Strachan controlled well before calmly finishing across the goalkeeper, 0-2.

Tolbooth halved the deficit five minutes later when, against the run of play, they were awarded a questionable penalty for handball. The spot kick was duly converted to make it 1-2.

Banchory restored their two-goal advantage less than five minutes later following a defensive mix-up in the Tolbooth defence. Cammie Strachan was on hand to take advantage, walking the ball into an empty net to grab his second of the afternoon, 1-3.

Despite seemingly being in control once again, Banchory’s task was made considerably more difficult on 34 minutes when an exchange of words resulted in Nathan Davidson being shown a straight red card. Half-time 1–3.

Tolbooth started the second half with renewed energy and reduced the deficit once again after some slack defending allowed their forward to sneak in at the back post and finish for 2-3.

The goal provided Banchory with a much-needed wake-up call, and they responded by raising the tempo and beginning to pull clear once more. The ever-hardworking Cammie Strachan was again at the heart of things, forcing another defensive error before completing his hat-trick to restore Banchory’s two-goal advantage, 2-4.

With Banchory seemingly cruising towards the finish line, Tolbooth produced an excellent goal of their own on 85 minutes to make things interesting. The home forward cut inside from the wing before unleashing a superb long-range effort into the top corner, 3-4.

Banchory now had to be far more vigilant in seeing out the remaining minutes and did so effectively. There was still time for the man of the match to add a fifth, as Cammie Strachan capped an outstanding individual performance with a brilliant goal in the 92nd minute. Receiving the ball to feet, Cammie turned his man, deceived the home defence and broke clear before finishing decisively to seal the victory. Full-time 3-5.

A well-deserved three points, although the game was made considerably more difficult at times by our own mistakes and a few decisions that didn’t go our way. A solid team performance and some outstanding individual moments earned the victory.

Banchory started the match well and controlled much of the early play. Despite creating several opportunities, the home side struggled to find the breakthrough, lacking that final piece of quality in front of goal.

Not to be deterred, Banchory continued to push for the opener and got their reward on 26 minutes. Sam Smith’s looping header came back off the crossbar, with Kyle Grant quickest to react and knock home the rebound.

It was 2-0 just a few minutes later. Marc Lawrence produced an excellent through ball over the top of the Ellon Thistle defence, allowing Sam Smith to race through and volley past the visiting goalkeeper. Banchory almost added a third immediately from the restart, but another big opportunity went begging.

The third goal arrived on 42 minutes. Cammie Strachan was found by a superb long ball from Nathan Davidson over the top, before squaring for Kyle Grant. Grant controlled the ball brilliantly inside the box before calmly finding the bottom corner to give Banchory a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Banchory remaining in control of the match. Ellon Thistle were not prepared to give up, however, and despite creating little themselves, continued to put up a competitive effort.

Their persistence was rewarded on 70 minutes when they were awarded a controversial penalty, which was duly converted to make it 3-1.

Banchory managed the remainder of the game relatively comfortably and restored their three-goal advantage on 79 minutes. Kyle Grant delivered an excellent corner into the box, with Nathan Davidson rising highest to head home and make it 4-1.

Another good performance from the team, particularly given the limited numbers available this week after a demanding opening few weeks of the season had taken its toll on a few players.

There is no fixture this Wednesday, giving the squad a chance to recover before looking to continue their excellent start to the season at the weekend.

Another home league fixture tomorrow as we face Ellon Thistle at Milton Park, Crathes.

Banchory make it three wins from three after a hard fought victory at home to Cove.

The team started well and played some excellent football at times without finding a finish to match the good play. Cove while having less of the play looked dangerous in moments and caused the home side some issues on the break.

The deadlock was broken on 34 minutes. Cammie Strachan, who had looked the most threatening player during the first half, won a penalty through his direct running and hard work. Sean Findlay stepped up and calmly dispatched the spot-kick into the bottom corner. Banchory doubled their lead just before half time. Some excellent play from Sam Smith saw him get to the byline before squaring the ball for Kyle Grant to finish. Half time 2-0.

The second half was a much scrappier affair. As Banchory looked to put the game beyond doubt, Cove broke from a corner and cut the deficit to one. The Cove forward evaded several challenges before finishing across goal on 52 minutes.

Banchory responded by once again trying to take control of the match, although Cove continued to look dangerous on the counter. Both sides had half chances, but neither could find the decisive finish.

Banchory eventually restored their two-goal advantage on 73 minutes. Substitute Simon Watson’s shot was controlled nicely by Sam Smith, who then calmly rolled the ball past the keeper to make it 3-1.

A similar scrappy pattern continued towards the end of the game, with a few questionable challenges raising the temperature. Banchory, however, managed the remaining minutes well and saw the game out relatively comfortably.

A good victory against strong opposition. A match where we had a lot of good play coupled with moments of complacency but ultimately ran out deserved winners against opposition who played their part and fought pretty much to the end.
