It was match day 16 for Banbridge Rangers Women in the NIWFA Pathway League with a trip to Loughgall whonsit in second place going into the final few games of the season.
Five regular starters were missing due to holidays with work commitments and injury meaning another seven players were unavailable. As a result Ruby Hall stepped into nets for the first time with some great handling and unbelievable kicking.
Despite having to play the match with just ten players it was one of the better performances of the season with the shape of the team and combativeness never failing throughout the match.
Loughgall took the three points in the end with a couple of goals early in the match and also towards the end of the game, including a penalty, but for long periods in between the score remained scoreless with opportunites at both ends. Rebekah Archer had three really good chances from set pieces with the best of these coming back off the post.
Faye Simms had an excellent game at left back amongst a very young back line but they defended well with Calleigh Dodds also performing confidently as sweeper.
The midfield two in front of Helen Peters was another two 16 year olds with Heidi Hansen covering every inch of the pitch and competing for every ball. Heidi has been brilliant in every game this season and was paired up last night with the equally tenacious Jessica McTurk. Jessica was making her first appearance but impressed from minute one with her tackling, desire and ability to run with ball creating a host of attacking situations.
The season has been a huge learning curve but a really good opportunity for the club to create a lasting pathway for youth players. The performances of both Jessica and Faye were brilliant and it was decided to split the Player of the Match Award between both girls. Thanks again to Donaghys in Banbridge who have supplied the keepsake trophies for the entire season.

Next up is the final home fixture of the season next Wednesday evening against Carniny with kick off at 8.00pm.

Banbridge Rangers Women played two league matches with good performances without being able to secure the three points in either despite creating a lot of chances.
Away to Limavady saw Banbridge equalise twice in the first half with Captain Rebekah Archer continuing her hot streak in front of goal with two composed finishes.
Limavady finished the second half stronger as Banbridge Rangers were unable to call on replacements from the bench but it was a solid performance all round with the young squad doing well, especially Emily McCullough who has been a superb addition mid season to bolster the attack.

Then on Wednesday evening in Banbridge the BRFC Womens team were at home to Coagh United. This was probably the fixture where most chances have been created this season with no less than eight clear cut chances and one on ones.
Coagh scored early on with a low cross turned in at the back post. It was still 1-0 at half time but Banbridge Rangers were ruing chances missed and looked strong despite going down to ten players through injury to Becca Wilson.
Even when Coagh scored early in the second half it was Banbridge Rangers who had the manority of chances with Bethany Newett making some superb runs but denied by a top performance by the Coagh keeper who no doubt ensure three points for her team. It was also good to have defenders Abby Niblock and Calleigh Dodds return to the squad on Wednesday with both players having very good games.
Katie McFarland was asked to step into nets and made some really good decisions and saves throughout the game and for her efforts now has a keepsake Player of the Match trophy.

Next up for Banbridge Rangers is a reasonably short journey in comparison to Loughgall on Wednesday evening with kick off at 7.30pm. Thanks to those for their support.

FOYLE CUP UPDATE: DAY 5

PLATE FINAL 🏆

Banbridge Rangers Under 14 Girls had been brilliant all week and deservedly booked their place in the second highest of six competitions after the group stages.
The setting at Carrowmenagh at the northern end of Donegal is beyond scenic with the pitch overlooking a sandy beach into the Atlantic Ocean.
With that exposure came a strong wind with the Banbridge side playing into it in the first half. Carryduff knocked Larne out in the Semi Finals and carried that good form into the Final starting on the front foot and opened the scoring inside five minutes.
Meghan Fitzpatrick then got between the defender and goalkeeper to poke a bouncing ball beyond the keeper and into the net for a 12th minute equaliser.
Carryduff were dangerous on the counter attack with Banbridge hoping to get into the half time break level and use the conditions in their favour.
Unfortunately a hand ball saw Carryduff go 2-1 before the break and then 3-1 within a minute of the restart making it an uphill challenge.
Natalia Sikorska skipped past several tackles before cutting into the box but the opposition keeper made a superb save, and likely the crucial one in terms of the match.
Carryduff went through on goal with just under twenty minutes to go to make it 4-1. But the heads didnt go down for long and the girls finished the match strong with a Fitzpatrick header from a corner but it was cancelled out at the other end.
Zara Thom, who came on board as. a potential goalkeeper, impressed in the front line and got her reward for a brilliant weeks effort by firing home a third goal for Banbridge Rangers.
It was a high scoring match but one that always felt just out of reach for the Banbridge team with several players coming off with injury and cramp after such an intense week of 11 a side football.

There have been some lasting memories created with players and parents being able to mix off the pitch socially and is a big part of the experience. After the game the players were disappointed but they had outperformed expectations and created a really strong side with a mix of players coming in from Banbridge Town gelling really well. Thanks to cosches Trevor McMinn and Stephen Fitzpatrick for their efforts over the last couple of months but especially to the families, sponsors and the players themselves who all behaved impeccably.
