Huge congratulations to club members Anna and Carla McArdle on conquering Ironman Kalmar, Sweden 🇸🇪. Following the swim, bike and run there was only 19 seconds between them. Anna assures me the ‘win’ will never be mention! Well done ladies. A super achievement. 🏊‍♀️ 🚴‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

Merchants of Speed – Solar Eclipse Special - Ernie Mark Cup – 25 Mile TT.

While the rest of the country was busy staring at the sky waiting for the solar eclipse, eight Banbridge CC riders decided the real spectacle would be them voluntarily entering the hurt locker for 25 miles. Priorities firmly in order, they headed to Ballymena for the Ernie Mark Cup TT hosted by Ballymena Road Club

Conditions? Warm, cloudy, barely a puff of wind. Basically as close to perfect as you can get… unless you were hoping to actually see the eclipse. The course ran from the Frosses to Armoy and back — a classic out‑and‑back with plenty of opportunities to question your life choices.

🚴‍♂️ Philip Castles rolled up with yet another new bike (we’re starting to suspect he’s collecting them like Pokémon). His lime‑green Canyon clearly agreed with him — he smashed out a 55:47, landing 5th overall.

🚴‍♂️ David Ross also dipped under the hour with a tidy 58:05, finishing 11th. He also unveiled his latest 3D‑printed creation: disc wheel valve covers. At this rate he’ll be turning up with a fully 3D‑printed bike by September.

🚴‍♂️ Deaglan O’Hagan was laser‑focused on breaking the hour. He clocked 60:15 (PB) — close but no cigar. True to form, he laughed it off and muttered “Next time!” like a man already plotting revenge.

🚴‍♂️ Trevor Wright, fresh off a road race the night before, feared heavy legs but still delivered a strong 63:12. Chasing him down was Martin Duffy, who bagged a shiny new PB with 63:47. He didn’t see the eclipse thanks to cloud cover, but admits to seeing stars approaching the finish line!

🚴‍♀️ Naomi Robb kept her hot streak going with a cracking 65:02 — another PB and more proof she’s flying.

🚴‍♀️ Hilary Ross debuted her gorgeous new Liv TT bike and promptly put it to work, clocking 68:05, her best ever over 25 miles. The bike is definitely fast… though we maintain it’d be even quicker without the triathlon accessories. Just saying.

🚴‍♀️ Naomi Morgan made her Banbridge colours debut on a road bike and absolutely smashed it — 73:51, her fastest 25‑mile time ever. The smile afterwards said it all. Magic kit, magic ride.

🔥 Fastest on the night?
A tandem.

Mitchell McLaughlin & Damian Vereker blasted around in 46:04, using the event as a tune‑up before heading to the Para Cycling World Championships in Alabama. Lads, we’re rooting for you and the rest of the Cycling Ireland squad.

👏 Huge thanks to Ballymena RC for a brilliantly organised and safe event. Even without the eclipse, it was a night to remember.
