FC Mindwell 4-1 Lower Maze FC 💛🖤

FC Mindwell travelled to the Bog Road this afternoon to take on Lower Maze FC in the opening round of the Premier Cup, looking to build on the positive performances and encouraging form shown during the early stages of the season.

Mindwell started the game strongly and quickly established control of proceedings. From the opening exchanges, the visitors played with real purpose and intensity, enjoying plenty of possession and applying sustained pressure to the Lower Maze defence. A number of promising attacking moves saw Mindwell threaten the home goal on several occasions as they searched for a deserved breakthrough.

That opening goal arrived midway through the first half courtesy of an excellent piece of individual quality from Jake Gorman. After receiving the ball in a dangerous position, Gorman produced a fantastic first touch to take the ball beyond the defender before following it up with an equally impressive second, clinically finding the corner of the net to give Mindwell a deserved 1–0 advantage.

The goal gave Mindwell further confidence, and the visitors continued to dictate the tempo of the contest. The pressure eventually paid off again just before the half-time whistle when Oisín Ginesi produced another moment of quality. Picking the ball up on the edge of the penalty area, Ginesi showed great composure before finishing superbly into the bottom corner to double the advantage.

Mindwell headed into the interval with a deserved two-goal lead following a dominant and controlled first-half performance.

SECOND HALF

The second half began in much the same fashion, with Mindwell continuing to control possession and push forward in search of a third goal. The visitors remained patient in their build-up play while continuing to carry a threat in the final third.

As the game progressed, changes from the bench brought renewed energy to the Mindwell performance, with Kane Rossiter making an immediate impact after his introduction.

Having been on the pitch for only a matter of minutes, Rossiter timed his run perfectly to latch onto an excellent through ball before showing great composure to round the advancing goalkeeper and finish into the empty net, extending Mindwell’s advantage to 3–0.

Rossiter wasn’t finished there and soon produced the standout moment of the afternoon to grab his second goal of the game. With the ball dropping inside the penalty area, he showed fantastic technique and improvisation to produce a superb acrobatic overhead kick, finding the net in spectacular fashion to make it 4–0.

Lower Maze continued to battle until the final whistle and were rewarded with a consolation goal of real quality. A clever back-heel finish found its way into the top corner, bringing the scoring to a close.

Overall, it was another strong and professional performance from FC Mindwell. The quality of the attacking football, clinical finishing and control shown for long periods were particularly pleasing, while the impact from the bench demonstrated the strength and depth available within the squad.

Most importantly, the victory sees Mindwell progress to the next round of the Premier Cup and keeps our positive early-season form going.

⭐ MAN OF THE MATCH | JAKE GORMAN

Jake Gorman takes the Man of the Match award after an excellent performance. A serious threat to the Lower Maze defence all afternoon, Jake used his strength and blistering pace to cause constant problems.

His goal was full of quality, with two excellent touches followed by a composed finish into the corner. His overall contribution, work rate and threat in the final third made him a key part of an impressive team performance.

We would also like to thank Lower Maze FC for their hospitality and for a competitive cup tie played in good spirits. We wish them all the very best for the remainder of the season.

With less than a week to go until the start of the new season, manager Martin has been busy working away in the transfer market, bringing 6 new signings into the Reserves squad! 👀✍️

First up, we have a trio who join us from Church Street in Newry — Jamie O’Connor, Tiernan O’Connor and Jay Kelly. Three great additions who we’re delighted to have on board! 💛🖤

Next up is Kris McNeill, who makes a return to Mindwell after previously playing for the club, making the move back from Ballybot. Great to have you back, Kris! 🤝

Ryan Devlin is next through the door. Ryan arrives from Newry and is a very young and talented goalkeeper who we’re looking forward to seeing develop with the squad. 🧤💪

IN-HOUSE 11v11 🟡⚫️⚽️

With no competitive fixture this weekend, the lads got plenty of valuable minutes in the legs yesterday with a full 11v11 in-house game.

It proved to be a brilliant contest — competitive from start to finish, played at a great tempo and full of quality from both sides.

Plenty of goals too, with an entertaining game eventually finishing 4-4! 🤝⚽️

A great workout for the squad and another important session as we continue our preparations for the games ahead. 💪
