⛳ HOLE BY HOLE | HOLE 1 – “THE MARGY”

Par 5 | 456 Yards

Our tour of Ballycastle begins with The Margy, taking its name from the river that runs alongside the right-hand side of the hole.

It may look like a welcoming opening Par 5, but The Margy has claimed more than its fair share of golf balls over the years — with many an opening tee shot offered up as a sacrifice to the river! 🌊

With water running down the right and two strategically placed bunkers guarding the left side of the fairway, accuracy from the tee is key.

Find the short grass and attention quickly turns to the green, but the danger doesn't disappear. The Margy remains a threat all the way down the right, while another fairway bunker and two greenside bunkers wait to punish anything wayward on the approach.

At 456 yards, there’s certainly an opportunity to get your round off to a great start — but with trouble lurking from tee to green, The Margy demands a little respect.

So, standing on the first tee… are you taking it on or playing for position? 👀⛳

📺 BALLYCASTLE’S OLLIE McEVOY ON UTV! ⛳️🏆

What a weekend it has been for Ollie McEvoy — and the story keeps getting bigger!

Following his incredible 20-under-par performance to win the Ballycastle Golf Club Championship, Ollie’s remarkable achievement has now been featured on UTV Live, asking the question…

“Could Ollie McEvoy be Northern Ireland’s next major champion?” 👀

From growing up around Ballycastle Golf Club to breaking the course record and producing golf that is now attracting attention far beyond the club, it’s fantastic to see Ollie getting this recognition.

Those of us at Ballycastle have watched his talent develop over the years, and we couldn’t be prouder to see one of our own representing the club on the big stage.

A huge thank you to UTV for coming along and telling Ollie’s story.

We have a feeling there are plenty more chapters still to be written… 🌟⛳️

Well done, Ollie — Ballycastle is very proud of you! 🖤🤍

BALLYDALL CUP
Well it wasn't the Shangarry Cup, but today, the Ladies' Branch held their annual friendly match with our neighbours Cushendall for the hotly contested Ballydall Cup. It's been quite a few years since Lady Ballydall has resided in the Ballycastle cabinet, but we are pleased to say that this year, the Ballycastle Ladies were victorious winning all the matches! Thank you to the two team captains - Captain Frances Swail of Cushendall Golf Club and Ballycastle Lady Captain Joan Kennedy for organising this local derby! Next year, we will travel to Cushendall with the hope of retaining Lady Ballydall. Ballycastle Team - LC Joan Kennedy, Eilish McCormick. Mary McErlean, Briege Loughrey, Stephanie McLaughlin, Siobhán McErlain, Siobhan McAuley, Catrina McNeill, Pauline McLaughlin, Linda Busby and Karina McCollum.

🚨 NEW COURSE RECORD ALERT!🚨

Ollie McEvoy has only gone and shattered the course record carding an incredible 11-under-par in Day One! 🔥⛳️

Fresh off the back of his McGregor Trophy victory across the water, Ollie has arrived at the first tee with his eyes firmly set on another piece of silverware.

With the season-ending in close sight, he put together a sensational opening round today as he looks to get his hands on the coveted Shangarry Cup and be crowned Club Champion for 2026.

An unbelievable -11 puts Ollie right at the top of the leaderboard and sends a serious message to the rest of the field.

Can he finish the job and add another trophy to what is already becoming a season to remember? 🏆

Take a bow, Ollie. What a round! 👏🔥

LADIES OPEN SCRAMBLE
The Ladies' Branch ran a very successful 3-ball Open scramble on Friday in aid of the RNLI. The prizes were kindly sponsored by 19 by Katherine Carr. There were 33 teams competing including visitors from Galgorm, Cushendall, Bushfoot, Greenisland, Malone, Moyola, Castlerock, Shandon Park, Royal Portrush, Milltown, Rockmount, Gracehill and Dunmurry Golf Clubs. The top four teams all scored 61 nett and so it had to go to countback with the trio from Galgorm Castle Golf Club of Anne Dines, Denise Montgomery and Jill Dick having the best back 9. Second place were a team from Cushendall Golf Club - Siobhan Armour, Carmel McKeown and Bronagh McCusker whose back nine just edged out the Ballycastle team of Clare Egan, Eilish McCormick and Lady Captain Joan Kennedy. Special mention to Stephanie McLaughlin, Catrina McNeill and Sinead McCormick who just missed out on the last 6 countback. Thank you to all those who competed today raising money for the RNLI.
