From occasional Hyroxer to natural bodybuilding pro in 120 weeks.

Just out here doing gods work, saving people from the Hyrox cult before they make them drink the kool aid.

Emma didn’t come to me initially looking to get on a bodybuilding stage.

In fact her initial goal was just to be a ‘little leaner’.

Which is pretty vague right?

The thing is most people are vague at the start.

When someone reaches out for coaching it’s not usually because you’re full of confidence and know what you’re capable of.

Quite the opposite actually.

But once you get the ball rolling (which is the hardest part by the way).

And you start to see things change.

Your clothes fitting better.

Your physique getting tighter.

Muscles popping in good lighting.

Then you start to grow in confidence,

When you grow in confidence, your goals grow with it.

So if you take anything from Emma’s progress,

Just realise that she had no idea what she was capable of either.

But she gave it a go anyway.

And well, look what happened…

A fantastic first season in bodybuilding with a 100% win record and a pro card to show for it.

Can’t ask for much better than that.

Another week closer to retirement I guess 🤷‍♂️

What if I told you that the scales are lying to you?

That they’re only telling you part of the story.

You’ve trying to tone up for months.

Training consistently, eating well during the week, putting in the effort.

But the scales aren’t moving the way you want them to.

So you’re losing motivation.

You’re starting to wonder what the point is,

Maybe you’re even considering giving up altogether because if the number on the scales isn’t going down, so you must be failing?

That’s where you’re wrong.

Some of my clients like Tara are actually looking their best despite being 9lbs heavier on the scales.

See, Tara’s main goal was to build muscle, or as most girls refer to it as ‘tone up’.

Which I think it’s fair to say she has.

But along the way, with an increase in calories and training harder in the gym, she’s also dropped 9cm on her waist measurement.

She’s growing in the right places and shrinking in the right places.

Almost defies the laws of thermodynamics that.

But that’s what happens when you stop obsessing over the scales and actually focus on what matters.

Building muscle in the right places.

Losing fat in the right places.

And having a coach who knows what to do and when to do it.

If your motivation is constantly up and down because the scales aren’t doing what you want,

And you’re stuck in this cycle of feeling demotivated every time the number goes up,

Questioning whether any of this is even worth it,

Then drop me a message.

Because the scales aren’t the problem.

But your approach is.

BNBF British Finals 2016

Hard to believe this was 10 years ago.

I actually dieted for 9 months that year without a proper break as I competed in June then dieted until the finals in September.

Sounds brutal but that’s bodybuilding for ya.

It paid off as I’d say I brought a good package that year for the physique I had at the time.

This was only my 2nd year competing and I was pretty proud to finish 4th in such a strong class of 12 athletes.

I’d like to think I’ve got another run in me at some point, but who knows…😂

Just having a laugh.

It’s been a long time coming.

But here’s another post about our man Murray.

Also known as:

Mr Consistency.

Mr Ripped all year round.

And Mr Ginger Universe 2026.

Murrays in great shape and he has been for a while now, so why does he still have a coach?

Simple, because I signed him up to a lifetime contract.

Legally he can’t get out of it.

Jokes aside, just because he’s ripped, doesn’t mean the jobs done.

There is so much more you can get from coaching other than just accountability when you diet down.

In fact when you finish dieting is the point where you actually need a coach the most.

You’re shredded but your hunger hormones are way out of whack.

Always hungry.

Never full.

And you’re struggling to control your appetite.

So gradually the lbs start to go back on, and before you know it, you’re right back where you started.

Out of shape and miserable.

With a coach things are different,

I guide my clients through the reverse diet process.

Teaching them how best to control their appetite during this phase.

How to avoid going mental the minute your diet is over.

And more importantly how to get your food back up, your strength up and your energy back to normal…all while staying lean along the way.

Doesn’t that sound much better?

Course it does.

So if you’re looking to get shredded, stay lean and build some muscle like Murray,

Just drop me a DM for more information on my coaching service.

If you enjoyed my post about my leg day, then you’re going to love this.

Yesterday’s session was my first of the week, back with a little touch of calf’s in there.

Both are areas that I really want to bring up during this gaining phase so expect to see a few lat pulldowns and calf raises over the coming months.

Full session:

Wide grip lat pulldown 3 x 8-12
Chest supported t bar row 3 x 6-10
Single arm nautilus pulldown 3 x 8-12
Overhand life fitness row 3 x 8-12
Leg press calf raise 3 x 15-20
Deadlift 1 x 8-10

Right now I’m simply just trying to drive progressions up within those rep ranges.

Once I’m hitting the upper ends of those ranges consistently, it’s time to add more load.

Simple but effective progression for now.

Some clips from legs on Friday.

I’ve actually restructured my leg training and put squats at the end of my leg day.

Why?

Because I enjoy doing squats but I get too carried away trying to train more like a powerlifter than a bodybuilder when I squat fresh.

And my body hates me when I try to train like a powerlifter.

So for the past few weeks I’ve been back to the 8-12 rep range for squats and after not going above 5 reps on them for about a year the doms were crazy.

Exciting stuff I know.

Stay tuned for more boring lifting updates.
