Today we were up against the standard of team where we want to get to - it shows just how tough the SMGFL Premier League actually is. We went in 2-0 down at half time after showing some brilliant character first half.... And we played some nice football. We just didn't take our chances today.

Unbelievable performance this morning from our girls, playing our first Premier League game after a year of development football, with 1 injured sub, and missing our regular goalkeeper. We took the lead late in the first half after a proper end to end game, with Number 9 getting on a fantastic ball from Harrie and smashing it home. Unfortunately we couldn't keep the lead till half time, as Altrincham scored an absolute screamer, giving makeshift goalkeeper Ella, who had otherwise been excellent, no chance.
2nd half started much the same, but both teams had 1 sub, and started to show a lot of fatigue. Some brilliant Altrincham football saw them take the lead mid way through the 2nd half, but our girls head didn't go down. With 5 minutes to go, Harrie blasted home her 7th goal in 3 games to get a share of the points.

When a team clicks, they click! Thankfully for us this morning that's what happened with us. Some of our football was a joy today.
Credit to our opponents playing only their second 9v9 game after a history of 7v7 (they got a win last week), and having no subs in those conditions. They had some really good players!

Sometimes a loss can feel like a small victory! This lot this morning put in an excellent performance in our final friendly before the season starts.

We played todays opponents twice last season, being on the wrong end of 8-1, and 9-0 defeats. We were beaten 3-0 today - but the progress these girls have shown is incredible! They had so much fight in them, and came off the pitch knowing it had been a proper battle, even picking up a couple of injuries. Every girl can be proud of their performance this morning, on 4G (which we don't usually play on) early kick off against a very strong opponent. Still plenty to work on before next season but we are all in a good place! ⚽

Having not played since our season finished in April, the good people of West Didsbury & Chorlton invited us over for a friendly to help transition their new soon to be U12 team from a 7v7 team to a 9v9.
The Lionesses started brightly, missing a few early chances, but it was WD&C who took the lead, after some great movement. By Half time they were 3-0 up, and the coaches had to explain to the Lionesses, even though it was called a friendly, they were allowed to tackle 🤣🤣 The girls went out 2nd half a totally different team! We pulled it back to 3-3, then went 4-3 down, then went 4-8 up! WD&C pulled one back with an absolute worldy of a chip, finishing off a great match, played in great spirits. Looking forward to seeing them again before the season starts.
