Ashford Walking Football

A few ‘under age’ players this week! Expect we will have the same through the summer holidays. Their skill levels put some of us to shame but our walking strides are longer than theirs 😝

Apologies to anyone planning to join us today but we have had to cancel. Too many players carrying slight injuries or away crossing another place off their retirement bucket list! Might be the same next week

What a great work out this week. Three new players. 13 did prove unlucky for Jez’s hamstring, unfortunately. Christmas lunch today. Watch this space for photos!

Great turn out again this week and the weather gods were kind, as usual. New members always welcome. We seem to be gaining around 1 per month currently

This weeks game is cancelled (23rd October). The Hockey Club has an all day booking on the all weather surface. We thought about playing on the grass but tonight’s storm has ruled that out.

That’s two weeks in a row we have had nine playing. Experimenting with some rules used by other clubs and expanding the pitch has given us a good work out, for minds as well as bodies. We always welcome new players.

Great to see several players back today, some after a long layoff. Making sure your whole team has touched the ball without an opponent getting a foot in is more of a challenge with four or five on a side. Some of the guys are really skilful. Others (e.g. me) have perfected the art of scoring with their standing leg while completely missing the ball with the other. We always welcome new players in the 50-80 age group. We play courtesy of Ashford Hockey Club at Ball Lane, noon on a Thursday.

We're really building up the numbers now so we get good games even when people are away on holiday or taking partners/parents to hospital appointments.
