78 players tee’d up at Ashford (Kent) Golf Club last weekend for the Ashford Men’s Open 2026 Norman Challenge Cup, and it was a close contest! ⛳️
Report by Chris Wood ⬇️
The leaderboard produced one of the closest finishes in recent Open history, with the top two players locked on 145 after 36 holes.
Congratulations to George Wilcock, who, playing off 1, delivered a superbly balanced performance with rounds of 77 and 68, the latter being one of the standout scores of the day. His composed second round proved decisive, securing him the top spot after an outstanding 2 on the 18th in the first extra-hole playoff.
Michael Vandenberg - off -3, posted 70 and 75 for his matching total of 145. His opening round was one of the most technically impressive of the competition, and he pushed Wilcock all the way to the finish.
Michael Blake - off 9, produced two consistent rounds of 74 + 74 = 148, demonstrating exceptional steadiness across both loops.
Ganesh Gurung - off 1, carded 73 + 76 = 149, showing strong form throughout and keeping himself firmly in contention.
Benjamin Hearnden - off 8, matched Gurung’s total with 72 + 77 = 149, rounding out a tightly packed top five.
