Let me reassure you that it’s really, really normal for baby and toddler’s sleep to wobble when they start nursery.

Naps will be short or more likely non existent, at least for the first few weeks.

Children need to feel relaxed in their environment to fall asleep. And understandably this is probably not how they are feeling when they are in a new setting, with new people around them.

But give it a few weeks, and once they are settled their naps will soon be back on track. They might even start having longer naps at nursery than at home. All that stimulation does wonders for sleep!

Swipe ⬅️ for what to expect for sleep when your child starts childcare and some tips on what you can do to help the transition.

And if your little one is starting nursery soon, be kind to yourself too, it’s a big transition for everyone 🫶🏻

The summer is over and coffee morning is back! ☕️

I’d love you to come to my September coffee morning on Tuesday 8th September, 10-11am Fieldhouse Coffee Windlesham & Lightwater at Windlesham Field of Remembrance.

Pop it in your diary and tell a friend.

It’s the perfect way to meet some local parents, enjoy a great cup of coffee, and get some FREE sleep support.

It’s a very relaxed, informal meet up, free to attend (just pay for your coffee) and no need to book. Older siblings are very welcome to come along too.

I’m a big believer that everything feels a bit better when you get out the house and speak to parents who are in a similar stage of parenting as you.

⏰ 10-11am

✨Helping little ones and their big emotions before the first day back to school ✨

However excited they might be about seeing friends and starting a new year, it’s completely normal for children to feel a bit wobbly in the run up to going back to school.

New teacher, new classroom, maybe a new uniform that still feels stiff and unfamiliar? Change can be exciting, but the fear of the unknown can stir up nerves, and it often comes out at bedtime when their worries have space to surface.

A few things that can help in the run-up:

💕 Talk about what to expect – who their teacher is, what the classroom looks like, what the morning routine will be

💕 1:1 time in the day – it doesn’t have to be much, just 10 minutes of focused time so there’s space for any big feelings to come out at 3pm rather than 8pm

💕 Get back to routine – being out of routine is unsettling. Try to get back to your normal morning and evening routines ahead of school starting

💕 Take bedtime slowly this week, and really focus on calm. Maybe an extra story or longer cuddle?

Watching them start a new year is a big deal for parents as well. It’s a period of transition for all of us. Emotions will be running high so take the next week slowly if you can.

You asked, so it’s happening - August coffee morning!

I don’t usually host my coffee morning in August, but at our last meet up some of you asked me to, so I thought why not! And thinking back to when my girls were little, I remember finding it SO frustrating that all our usual classes weren’t on over the summer. So here we go, my coffee morning is happening next week.

Come along to Fieldhouse Coffee Windlesham & Lightwater at Windlesham Field of Remembrance on Thursday 6th August between 10-11am.

Pop it in your diary and tell a friend.

Do you find yourself anxious about going out for the day, concerned that your child’s routine might be disrupted?

Or do you feel nervous about leaving your child with a family member or babysitter whilst you go for an evening out in case their normal routine isn’t followed?

✨ Let it go!

I’m a big fan of having a predictable pattern to the day but I can honestly tell you that a few days ‘off routine’ will not make a huge difference to sleep.

⬅️ Swipe left for 5 reasons why having some ‘off routine’ days this summer may actually be really beneficial for everyone.

If you’re out for the day and your child skips a nap or goes to bed late because the babysitter read 6 books instead of the usual 2, it really won’t make too much difference. The chances are they’ll fall back into their normal pattern or routine the following day and you won’t look back.

☀️So, say yes to the date night with your partner, say yes (maybe!) to a day at Peppa Pig world, say yes to a spontaneous day out with your 2 year old…

You and your child will both benefit hugely from doing something different.
