Johnston Claims The Fairlawns Residential Home sponsored Hirsch Cup with Superb 42-Point Return
Jordan Johnston produced an outstanding performance to win the prestigious Hirsch Cup with an excellent 42-point score, finishing a point clear of the chasing pack, after a round of controlled and consistent golf.
Playing off a handicap of 2, Johnston set the tone early with a remarkable front nine.
A gross score of 31 saw him reach the turn three under the outward par of 34, highlighted by birdies at the 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th holes. His precision from tee to green was evident throughout the opening stretch, allowing him to build a solid platform for the back nine.
The inward half was equally impressive.
Johnston added a further 34 strokes coming home, including birdies at the 10th, 12th and 15th holes. Despite a dropped shot at the 14th, he maintained his composure to sign for a superb gross score of 65, four shots under the course par of 69.
That excellent scoring translated into 42 Stableford points, enough to secure victory in the Hirsch Cup.
He was closely followed home by Lindsay McFadden, playing off 9 who recorded an eagle at the 10th hole and carded a steady round of gross 73 for a total of 41 points.
In a day that was dominated by the lower handicap groupings Paddy Smyth off 11 shot 39 points for 3rd place, David Barr off 8, also shot 39 points but was edged into 4th by Smyth’s better back nine, meanwhile Barr’s better back six holes edged 2 handicapper Shea Brady into 5th place.
The gross was claimed by John Vernon, playing off 4 with a gross 71.
Congratulations to all our prizewinners and thank you to Fairlawns Residential Home for their continued generous sponsorship,

Emma Garrigan has Double Aces during her club match at County Armagh Golf Club
Emma Garrigan got two holes in one on the 7th then the 9th.
She was playing a Charlemont Salvor Match with her partner Michelle Kinane against Paula McCrory and Hilary Johnston, which Emma and Michelle eventually won.
The odds of this happening are an amazing 162 million to one and it has happened before on County Armagh when Joe Rooney holed out at the 3rd and also the 7th in the same round in August 2017!
Congratulations to Emma on her unique achievement, many golfers dream of a hole in one but two in the one round is extraordinary.
County Armagh Golf Club seems to be the place to play for any golfers dreaming of achieving even that first hole in one!
