It was the final game of the 2026 season on Saturday as the 1st XI hosted Morecambe 2s. Captain Fothergill opted to bat as he won the toss again to take his record to 19 wins and 5 losses with the coin this season.
Appleby were reduced to 4-2 in the 2nd over before a 89-run partnership between Sutton (41) and Brabbins (62) for the 3rd wicket put Appleby back in control. Contributions from Fothergill (25) and Kirkpatrick (23) took Appleby’s total to 204-9.
Hook and Sweeney took 3 wickets each as Appleby bowled the visitors out for 133 to finish the season with a victory. A great season with just the one defeat in the league all year. The 1st XI will take promotion to progress to the Palace Shield Championship next season.

The 2nd XI finished the season off at Penrith 2nds. With a top 3 league position already confirmed, there were some changes to roles within the team. Cleminson (37) and Wilkinson (32) were best with the bat as we lost by 70 runs. The league position should ensure yet another promotion for the team.

Presentation will be held this Friday evening in the pavilion. More details to follow.

Gameweek 21 saw the 1st XI travel to Ulverston, skipper Brabbins lost the toss and Ulverston elected to bowl first. Allison and Sutton both made starts but fell before a number of quick wickets fell leaving Appleby 44-5. POTM Sweeney top scored with a well made 40 and with support from Gordon (11) and Hook (21) saw Appleby post 124. In return, Ulverston fell 49 runs short with Hook and the returning Bellas the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets each. At home, the 2nd XI faced Kirkby Stephen looking to win the Dick Stephenson Trophy. Appleby won the toss and elected to bowl first, Kirkby Stephen made 109 AO with Hodder (5/13) and Verhoeven (3/16) the pick of the bowlers. Appleby made short work of the chase knocking the runs off within 23 overs with POTM Cleminson making an unbeaten 61.

Saturday sees the 1st XI travel to face Ulverston whilst our 2nd XI host Kirkby Stephen competing for the Dick Stephenson Trophy. Sunday sees our development team host Warton 3rd XI.

Our annual bank holiday fun day was held on Sunday with 4 teams consisting of players from all 4 of our senior teams and members of the club.

A great day as always with Evan’s team coming away victorious and taking Muff’s cup home 🏆

Firstly, apologies for the delay in posting the report from Saturday. Been a long weekend 🍻🍻🍻

The 1st XI welcomed Settle 2s knowing 5 points would secure the league title. Appleby opted to bowl first, but it was the visitors who made a good start with Marklew making 44. Regular wickets then fell as Settle were bowled out for 127. Allison and Sutton taking 5 wickets each.

It’s was Allison and Sutton who began the chase but Sutton fell early at 2-1. An unbeaten 126 partnership between Allison and Hook followed as Appleby eased to victory inside 18 overs despite a short rain delay. Back-to-back WCL Div 1 titles secured with 2 games to go 🏆🏏

Our annual bank holiday fun day takes place this Sunday 30th August 2026.

4 interclub teams with a mixture across all four of our senior teams are set to battle out for victory.

Bbq, music and bar will be open with the first game starting at 11:30.

Gameweek 19 of the WCL saw the first XI make the long journey to Haverigg looking to continue their quest for the title. Haverigg won the toss and elected to bat first, Allison claimed the wicket of the dangerous Adams before Evans and Maree rebuilt for Haverigg. Davidson then claimed the key wicket of Evans. The spin duo of Sutton and Sweeney then settled down and bowled tightly and did the damage in the middle overs leaving Haverigg 117/7. The returning Hook and Davidson took the last wickets as Haverigg posted 131. In return, Haverigg struck first and took the wicket of Allison before Sutton and Hook took the scores to 45. Once Sutton fell, Fothergill and Hook put on a further 30 to the scores. Haverigg bounced back with a number of wickets before Appleby got over the line with 2 wickets to spare. The first XI require 5 points to claim back to back WCL titles.

In Division 3 there was another important game in which the 2nd XI hosted Ulverston 2nd XI. Ulverston opted to bowl first and this looked a good decision as Appleby found themselves 27/4. Appleby fought back with POTM Dawson making 55 who was well supported by the lower order, in particular Hunter with a quick fire 36 from 18 balls which saw Appleby post 199/8 from 40 overs. In response, Ulverston made 155/9 with Dawson pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-17.

On Sunday the 2nd XI were well beaten by Burneside 2nd XI in the SF of the 40 over cup.
