What does a lender actually want to see from a first-time property developer?
It’s one of the questions we hear regularly and one of the reasons we’ve launched the Mint First Time Developers Academy.
You might have the ambition and a great opportunity, but understanding how Development Finance works and how lenders assess a project can make a big difference.
The Academy is led by Sam Herd, Head of Credit, with practical insight from the people at Mint who assess, structure and manage Development Finance every day.
We’ll cover everything from preparing your application and understanding the numbers to managing the project and planning your exit.
Because funding the next generation of developers shouldn’t just be about providing finance.
It should be about sharing knowledge too.

Supporting Young Talent!
Because you can’t make decisions about your future from the sidelines.
At Mint, we believe one of the best ways to support young talent is simply to give young people the opportunity to experience the world of work for themselves.
We’ve recently welcomed Kate Rosenthal and Poppy Robson to Mint for work experience, giving them a first-hand introduction to the world of specialist property finance.
From understanding our products and undertaking competitor analysis, to spending time across different departments and supporting our Loan Processing team, they’ve had the opportunity to see how a specialist lender operates and, just as importantly, how people work together to make it happen.
Neither Kate nor Poppy needs to know exactly what their future career looks like yet. That’s precisely the point.
Experiences like these give young people the chance to explore different industries, understand the workplace and discover what they do, and perhaps don’t, want to pursue.
Because the next generation of talent shouldn’t have to make those decisions from the sidelines.

12 years of Paul Wertheim at Mint Property Finance.
From paper files and a £3 million loan book to the national specialist lender we are today, Paul has been part of an extraordinary period in Mint’s story.
Over those 12 years, his contribution has touched almost every part of the business. From refining processes and introducing new technology to developing our infrastructure, products, procedures, marketing and brand, Paul has played an important role in helping Mint evolve and grow.
But perhaps most importantly, Paul has always understood that Mint is about people. The colleagues, brokers, solicitors and borrowers who have been part of the journey and the relationships built along the way.
So today, we simply want to say thank you, Paul Wertheim
Thank you for 12 years of commitment, contribution and friendship, and for continuing to play such an important role in Mint’s next chapter.
