A 10 hole competition was held in the memory of past member Terry Round. He would be delighted to see a high handicap player winning.
Presenting the trophy to Connie Lowe is last year’s winner Stu Anthony. She was the only player to beat their handicap with a score of 23 points.

Thank you to our Seniors Captain, Nigel Savage for organising his Captains Away today, 23rd September.

It was held at Chilwell Manor Golf Club, where 20 of our senior group were treated to a very warm welcome, good food, service and an excellent course with fairways still dry and running. The greens were tricky with lots of subtle borrows which led to some players struggling to avoid those dreaded three putts!

There were two competitions to play for, a team 'best two from four to count' plus an individual stableford too. We dodged most of the showers that were around and after our steak pie dinner Nigel declared the results and awarded the prizes which went to the following:

Individual:
1st: Trevor Parrett - 41pts
2nd: Ross Poyner - 40pts
3rd: Keith Else - 38pts
4th: John Pollard - 37pts

Team:
1st: Nigel Savage, Dave Lowe, Trevor Parrett and Graham Shinfield - 93pts
2nd: Paul Eveson, Trevor Haslam, John Pollard and Gary Crompton - 86pts
3rd: Keith Else, Stan Munks, John Spencer, and Phil Smith - 85pts

Additionally, there was a nearest the pin winner for the 9th and 12th par 3 holes. No one finished on the 9th green, but Phil Smith secured the prize on the 12th, well done Phil, 👏

Friday the 4th September saw the final round of this 10 hole, 10 round competition. With four players in with a chance of winning overall, the five best round cards had only one point separation after 9 rounds. Our sponsor Richard Hampshire can be seen presenting the trophy to Liam Denholm. Congratulations to Liam scoring a five card total of 97 points. Thank you to all that have participated this year and to Richard for his continued sponsorship.

Seniors section played their final competition of the season for the Ray Sunderland plate. Well done to Dave Welsh the winner with 37pts. A change to the course after the recent rain with grass starting to reappear.

SENIORS DIVISION 1 & 2 SHIELDS
Brent Ridley (right) & Graham Shinfield (left) received their Division 1 and Division 2 Shields from Seniors Captain Nigel Savage following their success in today’s competition. Nigel’s duties were particularly galling for him as he only lost the Division 1 title to Brent on a back 9 countback having played too safe on the final hole and ending up well bunkered!!

It was a smaller field than normal due to the absence of several regulars who’d been away on a 3 day golfing break, and several more absent due to grandfather duty now that the schools are closed for summer! But that didn’t prevent those who did play from enjoying the continuing fine weather and the amazing condition of the course given the drought conditions our greenstaff are having to contend with.

Next up is a friendly match away at Chatsworth on Wednesday 5th August. That should prove an interesting challenge if ground conditions remain as hard and fast as they are at the moment, but don’t worry Nigel, Chatsworth doesn’t have any bunkers!!

We held a very successful fundraising day on Saturday. With an almost full list of entries the winning team led by phil Severn with a score of 87 points. Nearest the pin was Gordon Swain, approximately £1200 was raised on the day for the club.Stars of the day eere the ladies raising £340 from there half way house .A very big thank you to Owen Taylors for donating 10 pork pies and 150 sausage rolls.

Results of today’s Seniors Open. Well done to all winners. Prize vouchers will be available to collect and redeem from Nev Hallam’s pro shop. Thanks to all involved and to the Green keeping team for presenting the course in such good condition despite the hot and dry weather.

Annual A38 Trophy played tonight at the Club. Well done to Alfreton securing a 8.5-5.5 win over Swanwick to keep the trophy for another year. Thanks to all who played and supported the night.
