County Championships - Final Round 🏓🏆

This weekend we hosted the final round of junior county matches in Abertillery, welcoming 7 teams from England.

The Gwent team completed their final two matches today with two excellent wins. 👏👏👏

This morning the team came out on top against Northamptonshire 2nds by a score of 9-1.

This afternoon the team faced Northamtponshire 1sts, with many matches going to five sets with some exciting and long rallies throughout. Gwent came out overall winners 7-3 concluding a fantastic day of results for the team.

Well done to all the players, coaches and supporters.

Also a big well done to Ariana and Anaya who stepped in and competed today for other teams who were short of girls and played very well. 👏👏

Thank you to everyone who helped with the set up on Friday night and the packing away of tables/barriers etc at the end of play today.

Player of the Month - March 2026 🏓🎉

Congratulations to Pollyanna who is our Player of the Month for March.

A fantastic Month for Pollyanna who has continued to improve and this has shown in her performances in recent tournaments including reaching quarter finals in Cadet and Junior events at Welsh National, and reaching Plate finals in Junior and Senior Women's events at recent Cam Gears tournaments.

Highlights:

Jack - Bronze in Junior Mixed Doubles and QF of Under 19's Boys.

Pollyanna - QF of Under 15's and Under 19's Girs

Sasha - QF of Seniors Women's

Seb - QF of Under 13's.

Also a shoutout to Jenson who achieved two Bronze medals in the Under 15's and Under 19's Boys events, and also to Gwent player Seb who achieved a Bronze medal in the Under 13's Boys event.

No Junior club next week as its Good Friday and the centre is closed.

Junior Club will be back running on 10th April.

Player of the Month - February 2026 🏓

Congratulations to Harvey who is awarded February Player of the Month! 👏👏👏

Harvey has only recently joined the club but has consistently improved his forehand and backhand technique every week.

He also played in the Gwent Primary School team event recently and helped achieve a fantastic 3rd place for his school. 🏓😊👍

A busy Junior Club session in Abertillery this evening.

Lot's of great effort on the table tonight from both our new players looking continue to improve their techniques and also our more experienced players training hard for upcoming tournaments.

A great weekend for all our teams 👏

🥈 Congratulations to our North Gwent A team who achieved an outstanding 2nd place in the Premier Division. Silver medals for Patrick, Lloyd, Toby, Scott & Jack. 👏👏

North Gwent B (Division 1) finished in 4th place overall securing their status in Div 1 for next season. The team narrowly missed out on the podium by just 1 point. Well done Ryan, Luca, Reece, Vincent & Rhys. 👏👏

🥉 North Gwent C (Division 3) finished in 3rd place, another strong season following last year’s 3rd place in Division 4. Great effort by the team cosisting of Greg, Laura & Sasha. 👏👏

North Gwent D (Division 5) finished 6th but had a much better weekend with some great individual and team results. Well done Rowan, Gianni, Finlay & Jun. Great team effort 👏👏

North Gwent E (Division 7) finished 4th, just 1 point off the podium, with lots of positive performances and great results against strong opposition. Well done Pollyanna, Ariana, Anaya & Seb. Keep up the great work! 👏👏

A big shoutout to Jack who competed for Swansea University in Division 2 and achieved a Gold Medal and promotion to Division 1. Fantastic individual results too with an outstanding Division average. Well done Jack. 🥇🏓

🏆 Player of the Month - January 🏆

Congratulations to Gianni who is our first Player of the Month winner for 2026! 🎉👏

Gianni has started the year strongly in training, putting in a lot of hard work and improving his consistency in preparation for representing the club at the 2nd weekend of the Team Championships of Wales this weekend.

The final award of the night was the Gerald Watkins Club Person of the Year. 🏆🏓

Congratulations to Verdun Ludlow, our thoroughly deserving recipient this year.

Verdun is a loyal and dedicated member of the club, regularly attending our Wednesday club nights in Abertillery as well as the Live Long Ping Pong Friday morning sessions. He has done so consistently for a number of years, very rarely missing a session, and his commitment and support do not go unnoticed.
