🥋 ANOTHER BUSY RANDORI OPEN MAT! 🔥
Another 19 judoka on the mat last night, and that was with quite a few of the regulars missing!
We started with 4-minute newaza rounds, before moving onto 2.5-minute tachiwaza rounds — and the work rate throughout was superb.
What was particularly good to see was the quality and standard of the throwing. People weren't just working hard; they were attacking with real intent, committing to their techniques and trying to throw properly.
And there were some BIG, BIG landings! 💥🥋
Exactly what these sessions are about — plenty of rounds, plenty of effort, good competitive judo and everyone helping to raise the standard of the people around them.
Most importantly, another great atmosphere created by great people. Hard randori, lots of smiles afterwards, and everyone just getting on with their judo.
Fantastic work again, team. 👏
19 on the mat with plenty missing tells us these Wednesday nights are becoming something pretty special.
🥋 Train hard. Throw big. Enjoy your judo.

GRADING DEADLINE APPROACHING
A big thank you to everyone who has already entered our August/September grading. Getting everything completed early really helps us with the admin involved in processing such a large number of grades.
The deadline is Tuesday 1st September.
We've checked the entries so far and have a few people who have paid but haven't completed the Google Form, and others who have completed the form but haven't paid.
Remember, your entry is only complete when all three steps have been done:
1. Valid JudoScotland licence
Your licence must cover grading. The initial free provisional membership does not and must be upgraded.
2. Complete the Google Form
3. Pay the £27 grading fee
Licence + Form + Payment = Complete Entry
Full details and links are in your original grading email and in the Grading section of the Ultimate Judo Members App.
Please double-check that you've completed everything before 1st September. We can't accept late entries.
Gradings take place during normal classes between Saturday 29th August and Saturday 5th September inclusive.

Summer of sport really helped some of our families to enjoy camp activities that would normally be financially difficult or impossible. Thanks sport aberdeen for supporting us again.

🥋 ULTIMATE JUDO GRADING TIME! 🥋
Our second grading of 2026 is coming up!
📅 Between Saturday 29th August and Saturday 5th September inclusive.
⏰ Registration deadline: 1st September
Gradings will take place during normal classes, so there is no separate grading session to attend.
Most members who have been training regularly will be ready to work towards their next grade.
As always, we're looking at our 3 A's:
🥋 Attendance
🥋 Attitude
🥋 Ability
For our newer members, if you've been training for at least four weeks by the end of the grading period, you'll normally be ready for your first grade. We're not looking for perfection — we're looking for safe participation, basic breakfalls and controlled judo.
📧 CHECK YOUR INBOXES!
We've sent members full information about the grading, including how to enter, registration and payment details, and JudoScotland licence requirements.
📱 All the information is also available in the Grading tab of the Ultimate Judo Members App.
Please make sure registration, payment and your JudoScotland licence are all sorted by the deadline. Unfortunately, we can't accept late entries.
Not quite ready this time? No problem. 👍
Our third and final grading of 2026 is planned for December, so keep training and keep working towards those 3 A's.
Good luck everyone — let's see how much progress you've made! 🥋💪

🥋 RANDORI IS BACK! 🔥
We started our regular Randori sessions back last night — and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
With 20 players on the mat, it was a fantastic first session back.
The format is simple:
🔥 Quick warm-up
🥋 4-minute Newaza rounds
🥋 3-minute Tachiwaza rounds
🔁 Repeat!
No lengthy coaching or stopping and starting — just plenty of quality mat time, working with different partners and putting your judo into practice.
These sessions are suitable for all Ultimate Judo members aged 14+, regardless of grade as well as players from other local clubs who we have links with. Whether you’re looking to improve your competition judo, build fitness or simply get more randori rounds in, everyone is welcome.
Brilliant effort from all 20 who took part last night.
Great work, guys — see you on the mat next week! 👊🥋

🥋 WE’RE BACK TO OUR NORMAL TIMETABLE FROM TODAY! 🥋
After a brilliant and very busy summer, all Ultimate Judo classes return to our normal term-time timetable from today.
For our existing members, that means returning to your usual routine and attending the class(es) you are signed up for each week.
It’s been a fantastic summer for the club — from our own Summer Camps and International School camps, to providing free and subsidised judo opportunities through Summer of Sport funding, and even welcoming Team Nigeria onto our mats during their preparations for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
But now it’s time to get everyone back into their regular training, with gradings just around the corner and a very busy term ahead! 💪
🥋 Thinking about starting judo?
The beginning of a new term is the perfect time to give it a go.
Whether it’s for your child or you’ve always fancied trying judo yourself, we have classes from young children right through to adults — and complete beginners are always welcome.
No experience needed. You don’t need to be fit before you start. Just come along, get on the mat and give it a try.
👉 Drop us a message if you’d like to arrange a trial session or find out which class would suit you.
🚧 Anderson Drive reminder: Access to Ruthrie Terrace is currently affected by the roadworks. Please come in via Auchinyell Road and allow some extra time to get to class.
Great to have everyone back.
New term. Back to training. Let’s get stuck in. 🥋

🚧 IMPORTANT – ANDERSON DRIVE ROAD CLOSURE 🚧
A quick heads-up for everyone coming to the dojo over the next few weeks.
Anderson Drive is currently closed from the Broomhill Road roundabout down towards Asda, with the closure expected to remain in place for approximately 3 weeks from 9th August.
👉 Access to Ruthrie Terrace is via Auchinyell Road.
We strongly recommend following the one-way system shown on the map — entering along Ruthrie Terrace and continuing around the loop to exit. This should help prevent bottlenecks, particularly around class changeover times.
⏰ Please give yourself plenty of extra time to get to class. With the additional traffic and diversions in the area, journeys may take longer than normal.
🅿️ Parking & our neighbours
Where possible, please use the parking area behind the dojo on Ruthrieston Road.
We also need everyone's help to maintain good relationships with our neighbours during what will already be a disruptive few weeks for them.
Please park responsibly and do not block or park across driveways — even briefly to drop someone off. Please also respect yellow lines and any other parking restrictions.
A few extra minutes walking is much better than causing an obstruction or inconvenience to local residents.
Thanks everyone for your patience and cooperation while the roadworks are ongoing. Please have a good look at the map before travelling to the dojo.
