North of Scotland Football League Grill League Cup Result.

A tough one to take after a closely fought cup tie against Premiership opposition.

On the whole, we struggled to get our usual rhythm going and never really built the momentum we know weโ€™re capable of. Despite that, the team dug in, competed right to the end and took the Premiership side to penalties.

Calum Simmers on 21 mins got Glentanar Juniors FC on the scoresheet from a set piece assisted by Aaron Blair, and at 1โ€“1 after full time the tie had to be decided from the spot, with Deveronside coming out 4โ€“2 winners.

Shoutout to Ross Gibson who saved a penalty during the 90 mins to keep us 1-0 up at half time.

Thereโ€™s definitely a feeling that if weโ€™d played the way we know we can, it could have been a very different result.

Even on a day when we werenโ€™t at our best, we showed plenty of fight and determination for the full 90 mins.

Plenty to take from it, plenty to work on, and we move on together at training this week ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸฆŒโšฝ๏ธ

All the best to Deveronside JFC in the next round of the Grill League Cup.

SCOTTISH COMMUNITIES CUP RESULT
Banchory St Ternan 2-2 Glentanar (Glentanar win on penalties)

Banchory controlled the opening ten minutes as we struggled to gain a foothold in midfield. The hosts opened the scoring from a corner when we switched off and allowed an unmarked player to head home.

Banchory continued to threaten down the left, but our defence stood strong. We should have equalised when Oli won the ball in midfield and drove into space, but his rushed shot went wide.

The equaliser eventually arrived from a short corner. Aaron whipped the ball towards the back post, where Oli jumped well and headed across goal to make it 1-1.

However, we failed to reach half-time on level terms. Once again, we were caught sleeping at a corner, and a mix-up in central defence saw the ball deflect off a Glens player and into the net.HT 2-1

We started the second half strongly, taking control and putting pressure on the Banchory back line. As we pressed higher, the hosts started to hit long.

Our pressure paid off when Oli found space on the right and dug out a cross towards the onrushing Archie, who finished first time into the bottom corner to level the score at 2-2.

Both teams battled hard for a winner and tried to avoid a penalty shootout. Ewan did almost find the 3rd when a short corner to Calum was turned back to Aaron who whipped the ball in front post. Ewan did make contact but not enough to trouble the keeper. The game ended 2-2 as neither side could find the decisive goal, onto penaltiesโ€ฆ..

This was where things became interesting. Banchory's young goalkeeper produced two fantastic saves, while his teammates converted their penalties to put the hosts two ahead.

It looked like the end of the road for us, but Gibson had other ideas as he pulled off two brilliant saves to keep Glens alive. Both teams then converted their next penalties before Gibson saved again, sending Glentanar through to the third round.

A really strong second-half performance and a never-say-die attitude from the lads earned us a place in the next round.

Special mention to Gibson, who showed his class by making three good stops in the shootout.

MATCH RESULT | Nairn St Ninian 0-0 Glentanar

The home side started brightly, applying early pressure as we found it difficult to settle into our usual passing game.

Nairn put numerous balls into the Glens box, but we stood strong and defended well. Logan was called upon to make a couple of excellent close-range saves to keep the score level at 0โ€“0.

We struggled to find any real rhythm going forward, with our best opportunity coming when Godwin found space on the edge of the box, but his effort was straight at the keeper.

On 34 minutes, we were reduced to 10 men. As Tito attempted to chase down a ball, he made contact with his opponent. The referee initially allowed play to continue, but the linesman flagged for the incident and Tito was shown a second yellow card.

With the extra man, Nairn continued to apply pressure, but the Glens remained resolute and defended well to go into the break level at 0โ€“0.

The second half was, as expected, backs to the wall as Nairn threw bodies and balls forward in search of the breakthrough. Our defence stood firm, while a little luck also went our way as the home side hit the crossbar and failed to find the finishing touch in front of goal.

We made a few changes to try and pose more of a threat on the counter, including the welcome return of Ross Macdonald after a spell on the sidelines through injury. We managed to get in behind on a few occasions, but the Nairn defence was solid throughout and snuffed out any danger.

With the clock ticking into the 91st minute, the numbers were level when a Nairn midfielder was shown a second yellow card.

A late flurry of Glens attacks gave us hope that we might nick all three points, but it wasnโ€™t to be, and the game finished 0โ€“0.

Given the circumstances, playing for over an hour with 10 men, the lads showed tremendous resilience, determination and work rate to earn a hard-fought point on the road.

Thanks to Nairn and the Westerlea Hotel for the hospitality.

๐ŸŸก๐Ÿ”ต WELCOME TO THE GLENS, JOSHUA McLOUGHLIN! ๐Ÿ”ต๐ŸŸก

Glentanar Juniors are delighted to confirm the signing of Joshua McLoughlin, who joins the club following the unfortunate folding of Stornoway Society.

A left-sided winger, Joshua brings plenty of energy and another attacking option to the squad. His ability to operate down the flank gives the management team added width and competition as we continue to build the group for the season ahead.

Manager Kieran Morrison said:

โ€œJoshua is another really good addition to the squad. Heโ€™s got plenty of energy, gives us a natural option on the left and has settled into the group really well. Weโ€™re looking forward to working with him and seeing what he can bring as the season progresses.โ€

Weโ€™re delighted to have Joshua on board and look forward to seeing him in navy and yellow.

Welcome to the Glens, Joshua๐ŸฆŒ

๐ŸŸก๐Ÿ”ต WELCOME TO THE GLENS, DYLAN RAMSAY! ๐Ÿ”ต๐ŸŸก

Glentanar Juniors are delighted to confirm the signing of young left-back Dylan Ramsay, who joins the club from HR Nicolls Amateurs.

Dylan is an exciting young defender with plenty of potential, and heโ€™s already shown glimpses of the qualities he can bring to the side. Comfortable at left-back and keen to get forward, weโ€™re looking forward to seeing him continue to develop as he gains more experience in the junior game.

Manager Kieran Morrison said:

โ€œDylan is a young player with a lot of potential and weโ€™re really pleased to have him with us. Heโ€™s still developing and thereโ€™s plenty more to come from him, but heโ€™s got all the attributes to become a very good player. This is a great environment for him to get games, keep learning and show what he can do.โ€

Welcome to the Glens, Dylan ๐ŸฆŒ
