🎊Our biggest beginners course ever🎊

Over 20 people picked up a shinai for the very first time in Aberdeen tonight! 🤩🎉

What a fantastic start to our latest beginners course. It was brilliant to see so many new faces stepping into the dojo for the first time.

Thank you to everyone who joined us we’re looking forward to training with you again next week 🙇

Last night was our final keiko with Kotaro Danno before he heads back to Japan.

Kotaro joined Aberdeen Kendo Club two years ago after travelling to Aberdeen from Japan to study, and in that time he has had a huge impact on the club, helping everyone improve, and making many great friendships along the way.

During his time with us, Kotaro achieved his Yondan (4th Dan) and competed in numerous shiai, including an impressive 2nd place at the recent Shiraoka Cup in Glasgow and 3rd place at the Greyfriars Cup in Edinburgh.

It’s always sad to see members leave the club, but we’re also gaining a new connection in Japan. We’re sure this won’t be the last time we train together!

Thank you for everything, Kotaro. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Aberdeen Kendo Club, with the support of The British Kendo Association, is happy to welcome Kazuo Yamazaki Sensei, 7th Dan, Tokyo, for a weekend of kendo in Aberdeen.

📍 Cults Academy, Aberdeen
📅 Friday 18th – Sunday 20th September

The weekend will feature a seminar with Yamazaki Sensei, followed by the 20th Thistle Cup Taikai - a great opportunity for kendoka of all levels to train, learn and compete together.

The weekend will include:

🔹 Friday – Welcome Keiko with Yamazaki Sensei
🔹 Saturday – Seminar with Yamazaki Sensei
🔹 Sunday – 20th Thistle Cup Taikai

We had a fantastic weekend at the Glasgow Seminar and Grading and brought home 2 new Ikkyu, a new Shodan (1st Dan) and Sandan (3rd Dan)!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
