We are very excited to announce we have successfully secured funding to help promote technological innovation in UK Maritime through Maritime Research and Innovation UK (MarRI-UK).

The funding will be used to develop the Oasis Power Buoy (OPB): an offshore charging unit for hybrid and electrical vessels. Expanding the design of our Mara Buoy range, a deck level mooring system originally refined for the leisure market, the Oasis Power Buoy will contain an electrical connection allowing crew transfer vessels to moor and recharge in-field.

The MarRI-UK initiative supported by the Department for Transport (DfT), will help develop technological innovation that improves UK Maritime services and operations.

Director George Smith said “We are delighted to be awarded this funding. The success of the Mara Buoy range has provided a platform, which is now leading to the development of the Oasis Power Buoy. The benefits to the environment and the wind farm operators of the Oasis Power Buoy will be great enabling the wider use of Hybrid and Electric vessels offshore.”

Even the keenest of sailors know it isn’t always plain sailing! Sometimes a challenge can add to the joy, but after a wonderful, yet tiring day, mooring your yacht shouldn’t be a burden. Regardless of one’s experience and expertise, picking up a traditional mooring buoy can prove very frustrating and dangerous!

A host of difficulties present themselves when using a traditional buoy; leaning over the boat in demanding weather conditions, grappling for a dirty, slippery rope, and then feeding it through the eye near the water surface is near impossible. Once finally in place, we only breathe a brief sigh of relief before our worry then turns to the mooring actually holding! So many boats end up on the rocks every year with the rope failing due to chaff and the boat coming loose.

It was after yet another problematic battle with a traditional mooring, our Director George knew there had to be a better way. He set out to design a buoy that would solve all these problems and make mooring effortless. The Mara Buoy was born – a tall buoy, sitting well above the water, practical and effortless to use, where the lines would stay clean, and with no chaffing! It has completely revolutionised the way we moor!
