Choosing seafood can be part of a more sustainable food future.
As people look for healthier and more environmentally conscious food choices, seafood has an important role to play. The carbon impact of food varies depending on how it is produced, but wild-caught fish offers a much lower carbon protein option than most land-produced foods.
By choosing seafood, we can help connect what we eat with healthier diets, local provenance and a more sustainable food system.

Very pleased to welcome early engagement with new fisheries minister Jim Fairlie at Peterhead Port this morning - a tour of the market floor where he was impressed with the quality of the seafood on sale (including a golden haddock) and a roundtable session with fisheries industry representatives in the Port boardroom where key issues and concerns were raised.

Scotlandโs seas are becoming increasingly crowded as offshore wind projects are driven forward.
New polling by Opinion Matters found that 86% of Scots agree Scotlandโs fishing fleet should be protected from such encroachment.
Scotland should not have to choose between producing renewable energy and harvesting sustainable food. With fair planning and meaningful engagement, there is space for both industries to thrive.
Fishing cannot be treated as an afterthought in decisions about the future of our seas.
Help us raise awareness on why Scotlandโs fishing fleet must be protected.๐

SFF are proud to have signed a Learning Partnership with Peterhead Academy and provide support to the school when able to. Marine litter policy lead Nina and Marine Technical Specialist Andrew went along to provide support to pupils participating in the marine litter survey and beach clean.
Pupils found a variety of objects on the beach and enjoyed discussing whether it was land based or from the sea, and how it might have got there. We had conversations about the challenges that fishermen face with marine litter and how important it is to reduce the amount of litter entering our seas, not just for the environment, but for our fishing industry too.
We hope that through the conversations surrounding ways to reduce marine litter and ways to improve recycling of end of life fishing gear, will help to inspire the next generation to help find solutions.

Scottish fishermen operate within strict quotas and licence conditions.
They also continue to invest in more selective gear and new technology to support healthy fish stocks.
See the facts and help us challenge the myths. ๐

Fishing and aviation are not the same story.
Scottish fishing provides a climate-smart source of nutritious protein. It also supports communities across the country while helping to strengthen Scotlandโs food security.
See the facts and help us challenge the myths. ๐

๐ท SHEPD (Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution plc) are proposing to install two subsea electricity cables as part of the Skye to Uist Replacement Project which will include cable protection where required. The project would involve the installation of two new subsea power cable sections between:
โข Ardmore and Loch Pooltiel
โข Loch Pooltiel and Loch Carnan
These works are intended to improve the resilience, reliability and long-term performance of the electricity network serving the Western Isles. The Scottish Fishermenโs Federation (SFF) has reviewed the proposed cable route information and converted the coordinates into fishing plotter files for industry use. These files are now available to download from the SFF website under the โSafe Seasโ section, to allow fishermen early awareness of the cable alignment.

This National Fish and Chip Day, we're celebrating one of the UK's best-loved meals and the important role seafood plays in our culture and coastal economy. ๐
Fish is one of nature's most sustainable and renewable sources of protein - wild caught from our seas and delivered fresh to our plates.
Today is a chance to celebrate more than a comfort-food classic but to recognise the value of the seafood industry and the people who keep it moving.

After seven years as Chief Executive of the Scottish Fishermen's Federation, Elspeth Macdonald has announced she will retire from the organisation in March 2027.
Elspeth took up the role in 2019 and has been an exceptional advocate for Scotland's fishing industry through some of the most significant challenges in its history, from Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic to the successful campaign against Highly Protected Marine Areas.
Her knowledge, professionalism and unwavering commitment to Scotland's fishermen has earned her widespread respect across the industry, in government and beyond.
On behalf of everyone in Scotland's fishing industry - thank you, Elspeth. ๐ฃ
