A STORY DOESN’T END WHEN A FRAGMENT IS TRANSPLANTED.
THAT’S WHERE IT BEGINS. 🪸
Since 2016, IslanDiving has been committed to restoring the coral reefs of Saint-Barthélemy.
In 2024/2025, we shared the first chapters of this story: planting, restoring, monitoring… and above all, continuing to take action.
In 2025/2026, we went a step further.
Because restoring a reef is not simply about placing a fragment onto a substrate.
It means going back underwater.
Observing.
Removing algae.
Removing certain predators.
Moving fragments when necessary.
Looking for the most favorable conditions.
And starting all over again.
But it also means understanding that coral never lives alone.
Every colony is part of an ecosystem where corals, fish, algae, sponges, crustaceans and other organisms constantly interact.
Restoring coral therefore also means restoring an ecosystem.
And behind every intervention, there are people.
Divers.
Volunteers.
Local stakeholders.
People who give their time, energy and skills.

These numbers tell part of our story this season.
But they don’t tell everything.
They don’t tell the hours spent observing, the decisions made underwater, the fragments as they develop, the colonies as they grow, the encounters, the unexpected challenges…
And above all, they don’t tell the story of the people who chose to dedicate their time to these reefs.
Because a reef cannot be rebuilt in a day.
Fragment by fragment.
Dive by dive.
Person by person.
