We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ralf Lopian on August 23rd, 2026.
Ralf was a long-standing expert in EPPO and IPPC bodies. He worked in the EPPO Secretariat as a Scientific Officer between 1991 and 1994 and contributed from the Europe region to the work of the IPPC. He was the driving force in the celebration of the International Year of Plant Health in 2020 and the establishment of the International Day of Plant Health.
In recognition of his significant contribution to plant health, Ralf was awarded the EPPO Gold Medal in 2023. We remember him as a very positive, energetic person with a clear vision, who used his energy to achieve the objectives he had in mind for plant health. EPPO is very grateful for his many excellent contributions and achievements in our field.
We will miss you Ralf!
