🚨🔴 WAS IRAOLA AND ALISSON’S ANGER AIMED AT THE WRONG TARGET?
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola and goalkeeper Alisson Becker were left furious after the Reds were held to a 2–2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
Before Forest scored their second goal, Iraola was preparing to make a triple substitution. However, the changes were delayed because the fourth official’s electronic substitution board was not ready.
During the confusion, Forest took a quick throw-in that resulted in Alisson fouling Neco Williams inside the penalty area. Morgan Gibbs-White converted the resulting penalty to put Forest 2–1 ahead.
Alisson’s frustration reportedly continued after the final whistle, with the goalkeeper kicking the substitution board. Iraola also criticised the delay, describing the incident as “unacceptable.”
However, that controversial moment was not the only reason Liverpool came close to losing.
Once again, the Reds started slowly, while their lack of midfield balance, vulnerability to counterattacks and poor defensive organisation were clearly exposed.
Goals from Alexander Isak and Víctor Muñoz eventually rescued a point for Liverpool, but Iraola is still searching for his first Premier League victory as Reds manager.
The officials’ mistake undoubtedly affected Liverpool. However, instead of directing all their anger at the substitution board, the Reds must address the tactical and defensive problems that continue to hurt the team.
💬 What do you think?
Did Liverpool drop points because of the officials, or were their own poor performance and defensive weaknesses to blame?
