🔙 Hanging on the walls of our clubhouse, this framed photograph and plaque commemorate the Ratu Mara – Michael Somare Papua New Guinea Sailing Tour, 1984.
Featuring John and David Philp, Patrick Holland, Robert MacGregor, Douglas Kilner, Jonathon Guzzwell, Ben Herter, Curly and Liz Caswell, and Jan Dunlop.
For many in our sailing community, these aren’t just names or faces in a photograph. They are friends, family, mentors and familiar faces who helped shape the spirit of sailing in Fiji. They strengthened friendships with our Pacific neighbours and proudly represented the Royal Suva Yacht Club wherever the wind took them.
As the next generation of junior sailors prepares to launch for semester two of 2026, may they always remember they are part of something much bigger than themselves. Every tack, every gybe and every race adds another chapter to the story of sailing in Fiji.
Vinaka vakalevu to those who came before us. Your legacy lives on every time a young sailor heads out onto Suva Harbour.
Fair winds and following seas. 🇫🇯🩵

Have your say on the future of paper charts.
The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has been working to ensure the ongoing supply of paper charts in a sustainable way that is affordable for the UKHO, its distributors and customers alike and are asking for your input in their current survey.

From Suva Harbour to Savusavu Bay⛵️
04/07/2026
Day 3 in Savusavu and the energy on and off the water has been outstanding. ⛵☀️
The Royal Akarana Yacht Club coaches from New Zealand are in Fiji to mentor and upskill our local sailing coaches, sharing practical coaching techniques, knowledge and experience that will strengthen junior sailing long after their visit.
And while they’re coaching the coaches, our junior sailors are the lucky beneficiaries—receiving world-class coaching on the water, building confidence, sharpening their skills and, most importantly, having a great time sailing.
The Savusavu clinic continues today, with a friendly regatta or adventure sail planned for tomorrow, depending on the weather.
The coaching clinic then moves to Suva, where sessions will run from 9–12 July, from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm each day. The cost is $80 for all four days. To register, please sign up at the Royal Suva Yacht Club office.
Vinaka vakalevu to the Royal Akarana Yacht Club coaches for sharing their expertise and investing in the future of sailing in Fiji.
