RABO BANKS ON EXPERIENCE FOR EXTRA BOG CHALLENGE
Suva FC coach Pita Rabo will bank on years of experience as a player and coach when he leads the Whites into the 2026 Extra Battle of the Giants (BOG) at the 4R Stadium at Govind Park in Ba.
Rabo is a familiar name in Fiji football, having first made his mark with Rewa FC, where he established himself as one of the Delta Tigers’ prominent players.
His breakthrough came when he was selected in the Rewa squad for the 1998 Fiji FACT at the age of 21, providing the platform for what would become a lengthy career in domestic football.
Rabo remained closely associated with Rewa during the early stages of his senior career before expanding his footprint in domestic football, which included a memorable stint with Suva where he scored the winner to lift the 2004 Fiji FACT title.
He later spent several years playing in New Zealand, featuring for Wairarapa United and YoungHeart Manawatu, before returning to Fiji.
Another important chapter in his career began in 2013 when he joined Suva. Rabo became an influential figure for the Capital City side and later took on the responsibility of captaining the Whites, including during their OFC Champions League campaign.
His transition from playing to coaching saw him remain closely involved with Suva. Rabo has served in different capacities on the Suva coaching panel, working alongside other coaches and gaining valuable experience from the technical area.
In 2024, he was named on the coaching panel alongside Nigel Khan and Inosi Cava, before being appointed co-coach with Brian Singh in March 2025.
He later worked as part of the Suva technical setup when Babs Khan returned to coach the side, continuing to build his coaching experience before eventually taking charge of the Whites.Rabo's coaching journey has not been limited to Suva.
He also had a stint in charge of Rewa in 2019, giving him experience at the district where his name was first established as a player. Now at the helm of Suva, his attention is firmly on the Extra BOG and the challenge of returning the Capital City side to tournament glory.
The Whites have won the Battle of the Giants three times, but their last triumph came back in 1995, leaving them with a 31-year wait for another BOG crown.
Suva opens its campaign against Navua at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 4, before facing defending champions Extra Supermarket Labasa FC at 3:30 PM on Saturday.
They complete their pool campaign against Nasinu at 11:30 AM on Sunday, September 6.
For Rabo, the tournament represents another chapter in a long football journey — from making his name in Rewa, becoming an influential player and captain with Suva, serving on the Whites’ coaching panel, and now leading the Capital City side from the technical area.
