When you find yourself enveloped in sharks take a look up. You will see one of our DiveMasters in expert control of the bait bin and where he goes the sharks will follow. 🦈🦈🦈

Our feature ‘Bin Master’ is Malakai or ‘Mala’ for short 🤙🏽 He wants you to get those epic shots 🎥 so those tuna heads will be dropping right in front of you 😉

MEET A BULL SHARK 🦈

Say Bula to ‘Topsail’ the female bull shark. 🇫🇯

Topsail has been visiting the Shark Reef Marine Reserve for almost 20 years!!

🦈 She is one of the easiest individuals to spot on the shark dive as she is missing half of her first dorsal fin. She also has a small circular scar on the left corner of her mouth.

Each shark has a unique personality and skill set, and Topsail is a bit neurotic. Shes a specialized hand feeder so she can get easily frazzled by the competition under the bait bin in the aerial feed.

When she’s locked in she will successfully score a tuna head, but her lower rank in the dominance hierarchy will determine whether she makes an attempt or not.

Some individuals like female bull shark ‘Crook’ will show up time after time with hooks, leaders, rebar and all sorts of fishing gear attached to them, while others never sport a single piece of bling.

Crook is a notorious bait thief, hence she was named for the crooks in the corners of her mouth, from being hooked repeatedly. Crook is about 50 years old, and she’s lowing down a bit. When she turned up with two metal nuts hooked in her mouth, we knew we had to step up.

Shout out to Earl for looking after Crook and removing the rusted nuts. 🙏🏽🦈🇫🇯
