HISTORY

The Battle of the airports started way back in 2010 . It was an initiative by former FA staffs (AFL/CAAF) & Fiji residence working at Auckland Airports. They challenged the staffs back then to a game of soccer and its now become an annual event ever since.

Aucklands Airports have toured Fiji year in, year out whereas FA United treats it like a Soccer World Cup, they only tour Auckland after every 4years 😁
The team have toured Auckland twice in the past. Came up short in 2012 but made up for it in 2016. Due to the Covid Pandemic in 2020 the World Cup Tour (iaia) to Auckland did not eventuate.

FA United have been on a winning streak since 2016 unitl this year where Auckland Airports managed to wrestle the trophy away from FA United at Churchill Park with a 4-1 drubbing (ouch) !!

Over the years the match have become competitive but the relationship have grown from to strength to strength off the field. At the end of the day, soccer wins & ideas, experiences & knowledge are shared around a tanoa of kava or case of Corona 🍻

FA United will depart our shores tomorrow morning with high hopes of returning the trophy to its rightful cabinet 🏆 🇫🇯
