The Finnhorse is endangered.

And while we can’t save a breed alone, we can do our small part.

At Ranch Kuulas, tourism gives our Finnhorses a job, and that income allows us to invest back into the breed, including breeding the next generation.

Almost every year, 1–3 Finnhorse foals are born here.

And if everything goes as planned, next summer there will be TWO new tiny Finnhorses joining our herd.

At winter, the cold is not your enemy, but it demands respect.

When you work with horses in Arctic conditions, what you wear isn’t about comfort or aesthetics. It’s about safety, focus, and being able to stay calm and present around the horses.

Good layering allows us to move, work, and care for our horses without constantly rushing indoors.

Warm feet help keep your whole body warm. Natural materials breathe and help regulate temperature, even in extreme cold.

This is everyday life in Lapland. Not an adventure outfit, but a working system refined through many winters spent with horses.

Cold doesn’t stop life here.

You simply learn how to dress for it.

And once you do, winter opens up a completely different way of experiencing Lapland.

This is one of the most important reasons why I do what I do. Follow us, if this sounds important.

For me, Finnhorse tourism isn't just a tourism business. It's also about creating new jobs for the Finnhorse, building new demand for the breed and, through that, helping secure its future.

We talk a lot about preserving the Finnhorse. But I don't think preservation alone is enough.

We need to talk more about how we can make the Finnhorse an economically valuable working and everyones horse – in today's world.

And I believe tourism has enormous potential to be part of that answer.

If the Icelandic horse can become one of an entire country's most recognisable tourism attractions, why couldn't the Finnhorse become the same for Finland?

Of course, this won't happen through the work of one company, one project or one person. It requires breeders, equestrian businesses, tourism companies, destination organisations and decision-makers to start moving in the same direction.

But we have to start somewhere.

And we've decided to do our part.

I want to see the day when an international traveller says:

"I'm going to Finland. I want to ride a Finnhorse."

Sometimes, life doesn’t go as planned — it goes better.
We never dreamed of owning a ranch. We just followed one horse… and he led us here.

When we built our first small stable during the pandemic, we only hoped to give our Finnhorses a good life and share a few quiet moments with others who love them.
But the story grew faster than we ever imagined, from that small barn rose a vision, and from that vision, a home.

Now, a few years later, we stand at the beginning of a new chapter:
our first full winter at Ranch Kuulas — with the restaurant glowing warm in the snow, accommodation full of life, horses waiting by the gate, and the northern sky above us.

This season will show us what we’re truly capable of.
It’s the season when our courage meets creation — when the long workdays, frozen hands, and endless dreams finally turn into reality.
