🥋 Three opportunities to try Cebuano martial arts this October!

Interested in knife defence, stick fighting or Filipino martial arts in general? We have three introductory training sessions coming up in Helsinki and Espoo. All sessions are suitable for beginners – no previous experience required.

🔹 Eskrima De Campo JDC-IO – Introductory Session

A practical introduction to Eskrima De Campo JDC-IO, a Cebu-based stick-fighting system with an emphasis on long-range fighting.

🔹 Nicklestick – Balintawak Eskrima Introductory Session

An introduction to Baraw Sugbo and its progressive approach to Cebuano knife-defence training. Suitable for complete beginners as well as practitioners from other martial arts.

20 instructors—and one more important step forward.

Congratulations to Juan Martin, who was certified yesterday as a Baraw Sugbo Instructor!

Juan also becomes the 20th Baraw Sugbo instructor certified in Finland—a meaningful milestone for our small training community and the result of many years of building the system here.

Instructor certification is not only about technical proficiency. It also represents the ability to guide others, structure productive practice, and help students develop their skills progressively.

Congratulations, Juan! Well deserved. 👏🇫🇮🇵🇭

🔪 Knife Defense Fundamentals – Helsinki, September 2026

Good knife-defense training is not just about learning techniques. It is about learning how to train.

Our next Baraw Sugbo Level 1 Intro Course introduces the core fundamentals of Metodo through progressive partner training. We start with clear, structured exercises and gradually develop timing, distance, perception and adaptability.

No previous Baraw Sugbo or FMA experience is required. Training is scaled according to experience and physical ability.

Some of the most valuable training happens in the parts of the system we practice the least.

Each time Grandmaster Eduardo Ceniza visits Finland, we make a point of spending time on the less frequently trained aspects of Baraw Sugbo—not necessarily because they are more advanced, but because regular training naturally gives some areas more attention than others.

These sessions are also an opportunity to revisit familiar material from a different angle, ask questions, and refine our shared understanding of how the different parts of the system connect.

A curriculum is more than its most commonly practiced material. Sometimes going back to the quieter corners reveals something useful about the whole.
