🌉 Smart placement: activating an underutilized urban space in Paris
How can cities integrate outdoor gym infrastructure into dense urban environments, while also protecting citizens from extreme heat and climate conditions?
In 2025, Omnigym demonstrated one answer by installing outdoor gym equipment under a bridge in Parc André-Citroën.
The park is located in the 15th arrondissement of Paris along the Seine.
This strategic placement transformed an underutilised urban space into a functional, inclusive, and climate-adapted outdoor training environment.

🌦️ Climate-adapted placement: providing shelter from direct sunlight
By placing outdoor gym equipment under the bridge, the site naturally provided:
🌞 protection from direct sunlight
🌞 cooler training conditions during heatwaves
🌞 safer and more comfortable outdoor exercise opportunities
-
👀 High-visibility location driving spontaneous activity
A key factor in the success of this Omnigym outdoor gym was its strategic placement along a high-traffic urban corridor near the River Seine.
The location was frequently used by cyclists, runners and pedestrians.
This resulted in strong engagement, with people stopping for spontaneous outdoor training sessions.
The Omnigym outdoor gym did not require planned visits, it became part of the city’s natural flow, attracting 13265 visits during its temporary placement.

Feedback straight from the users 📢
Omnigym’s test gyms have visited new locations since 2020 introducing outdoor gyms across Europe. This year the test gyms have visited 33 locations so far, collecting nearly 2 500 responses from the users. 📝
The feedback received from the users provides us with valuable insight on how the outdoor gyms are seen and should be developed. But also validate that we are on the right path.
💬“As a physical therapist, I see the benefit in the fact that the machines have resistance levels that can be adjusted to suit each individual's ability, making them accessible to beginners, older adults, and more experienced users alike. I've already noticed that those of us who visit the gym feel a sense of community and have a common ground for meeting people of different ages and cultures, and we encourage each other during our workouts. It feels absolutely fantastic!”
People of Bangkok have found Omnigym 🌏
At Benjakitti Forest Park in Bangkok, a former industrial site has been transformed into a public space where people can engage in a variety of free activities, including outdoor strength training.
The installation of the Omnigym outdoor gym is part of a broader effort to create a healthier Bangkok by making physical activity more accessible through the Cities for Better Health initiative. The project demonstrates how urban design and physical training can work together.
Rather than relying solely on individual motivation, cities can encourage people to be more physically active by creating accessible, attractive, and inclusive environments that support active living.
For many people,
the biggest barriers to physical activity are not motivation, but:
👉 Limited financial resources
👉 Absence of active environments
👉 Environments that do not feel accessible
Creating active environments with outdoor gyms in public spaces can help address all three.
Benjakitti Park is an example of how cities can transform underutilized land into infrastructure for stronger communities.
