What does the night before actually look like?

Sixteen riders said a version of this. Most of them already knew it, which is what makes it interesting.

Most riders prepare the bike thoroughly and prepare themselves by accident. Then the first session gets spent catching up, and that's a session you've paid for.

Prep isn't more effort. It's a handful of things in a fixed order, so your head turns up at the same time your bike does. Not technique, the state you arrive in.

By the way, I've got a tool riders use that shows you what to sort out before you even get to the track.

Message me PREP and I'll send it over.

How much of your riding is protecting the budget?

Nine riders put it in almost exactly these terms. It doesn't get talked about, and it should.

Careers rarely end because a rider got slow. They end because the money ran out. And long before that, the worry gets on the bike with you. You brake a fraction earlier, leave a little in reserve, and never quite work out why.

That isn't weakness. It's arithmetic your brain is running whether you asked it to or not.

By the way, money is one of the areas we cover in the Race Weekend Review, with the fix for riding your own race instead of protecting the budget. Free, six minutes.

What would you be relieved of?

Same 101 riders, same question. What would riding at your full potential actually feel like?

More of them reached for relief than reached for winning.

Which tells you what they're carrying. Not a lack of pace. A weight. And you can be quick and still be carrying it. Plenty of them are.

By the way, there's a way to find out exactly what you're carrying and where it's costing you.

Message me RELIEF.

Does wanting it more ever make you slower?

Wanting it more is supposed to be the answer. Often it's the problem.

You grip tighter, push harder, force it, and the lap gets worse. That's not you failing. That's your system doing exactly what it does under threat: tense up, narrow down, protect. The harder you squeeze, the less flows.

The fix isn't more effort. It's knowing which moments to take effort out of.

By the way, I built something that shows you where the trying too hard is actually costing you time.

Message me EASE and I'll send it.

When did it last feel like that?

Sunday night. Engines off.

Thirty per cent of riders, asked what their best would feel like, used the word fun. Nine per cent said winning.

Most riders have had it once or twice, a session where it went quiet and everything arrived early, and couldn't tell you how they got there. It isn't luck and it isn't form. It's a state, and states can be trained.

By the way, if you've been racing this weekend, tonight is the best time to do this. I built something called the Race Weekend Review. It scores the weekend you've just had across seven areas, mindset, prep, free practice, qualifying, the race, your mental patterns and the money, and it shows you which one cost you most and what to do about it. Free, six minutes, and it's sharpest while the weekend is still fresh in your head.

Does that thought get on the bike with you?

56 riders we spoke to described this exact thought: overthinking, and the thought of crashing.

Which corner does it show up in most for you?

21/08/2026

What would it feel like for you?

We asked 101 riders what it would feel like to ride at their full potential.

Nine per cent mentioned winning.

The rest described a feeling. Fun. Relief. Calm. Knowing they'd done their own ability justice. One put it as being rewarded for years of work.

Worth sitting with, that. Almost everyone trains for the nine per cent. Almost nobody trains for the rest.

By the way, I built something called the Race Weekend Review. It scores your whole race weekend across seven areas, mindset, prep, free practice, qualifying, the race, your mental patterns and the money, and it shows you which one is costing you most and what to do about it. Free, six minutes.

is on track this weekend.

No Limits at Knockhill, Round 7. A tight, twisty Scottish circuit that climbs and drops over the hillside, demanding absolute commitment and a quiet mind through the blind crests.

The circuit rewards commitment. The rest is down to the rider.

Race weekend.

heads to Thruxton for Round 7 of the British Sportbike Championship.

The fastest circuit in the country. Speed almost everywhere, and very little of the lap spent slow enough to gather yourself.

The level demands everything. The work does not change.
