[Participants] After more than a year and a half living in New York, a participant in our Job + J1 Visa Program has discovered how the city can completely transform the way space is understood. Compact apartments, multifunctional furniture, and integrated storage show how every inch can become an opportunity to create smart, warm, and highly personal solutions.
This experience has also changed her professional approach as an architectural designer. She now pays closer attention to precision, flexibility, circulation, light, and functionality, understanding that the quality of a space does not depend on its square footage, but on how effectively it responds to the real needs of the people who use it.

[News] Canadian architecture studio KPMB has unveiled images of Yale University’s new Dramatic Arts Building, a project that will bring the David Geffen School of Drama together in a single space for the first time since its founding in 1924. The 207,000-square-foot building will host Yale Repertory Theatre performances while supporting academic activity linked to theatre, dance and performance studies.
The proposal will replace the university’s currently dispersed rehearsal and performance spaces with a unified centre designed for undergraduate students, MFA candidates and the wider New Haven community. With this project, Yale strengthens the role of the performing arts within the university and creates a new meeting point between education, cultural production and urban life.

[Participants] Living in small New York apartments completely changed the way one participant in our Job + J1 Visa Program understands design. She used to associate architectural quality with spaciousness, large rooms, and a sense of openness; however, life in New York taught her that a good interior does not depend only on square footage, but on the intention behind the way every corner is designed.
As an architectural designer, this experience made her value flexibility, functionality, and adaptability even more. A table can become an office, a hallway can turn into a storage area, and a living room can become a guest room. New York taught her that limitations do not reduce creativity; in many cases, they are precisely what lead to the smartest solutions.

[News] The Miller Hull Partnership and Woods Bagot have completed the expansion of Terminal C at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, introducing a large timber-clad “tree” as the central feature of the new gathering space. The project forms part of Upgrade SEA, the Port of Seattle’s initiative to modernize the airport.
The expansion more than doubles the size of the existing buildings, adding four new floors and taking the form of a wedge-shaped structure with a gently sloped roof fitted with photovoltaic panels. Its undulating glass façade uses electrochromic glass to reduce glare while maximizing natural light.

[Participants] Living in New York City often comes with the expectation that every day should be full of movement, discovery and productivity. During the first months in the city, it can feel difficult to stay home without thinking that an opportunity is being wasted. There is always another neighborhood to explore, another museum to visit, another restaurant to try or another event happening somewhere, and social media can make it seem as if everyone else is making the most of the city at every moment.

[News] Snøhetta has designed the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, North Dakota, as a piece of architecture that appears to emerge from the landscape itself. Set on a hill overlooking Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the building blends into the Badlands through timber and earth volumes topped by a large green roof shaped like a hill.
The planted roof rises above the interior spaces and reconnects with the ground, adapting to the prairies, ravines and plateaus shaped by ancient erosion. The result is an intervention that stands out without imposing itself, creating a calm presence in dialogue with the age and natural force of the surrounding hills.

[Participants] Working in New York can be as stimulating as it is exhausting. The city’s pace demands constant energy, which is why escaping into nature for a few days becomes a necessary way to regain balance. Just one hour by train from Grand Central, Bear Mountain State Park offers a complete change of scenery: the Hudson River, the lake, the mountain, and a peaceful atmosphere that allows you to disconnect without going too far from Manhattan.
A participant in our Job + J1 Visa Program shared their experience at Bear Mountain as a short but restorative pause from New York life. Between staying at the Bear Mountain Inn, walking by the lake, and hiking part of the Appalachian Trail to the summit, the trip became a simple reminder: even in a city as intense as New York, nature is still close enough to return with renewed energy.
