Less than 1% of youth soccer players turn pro.

That's not meant to discourage anyone; it's a reminder to have a plan that gives you the best chance to succeed, on and off the field.

Swipe to see why every soccer family should be having this conversation. ⚽

Sending your 16-year-old across the world isn’t easy, but knowing he’s in the right hands makes all the difference.

This is April’s story as Darren’s mom, and the journey PlayAbroad helped her family navigate. When Darren wanted to chase soccer at a higher level, April and her family didn’t just look for any opportunity abroad, they looked for the right one.

PlayAbroad took the time to understand not just Darren’s ambitions, but the whole family’s priorities, walking them through what made sense academically, athletically, and financially.

The result: Portugal, with Darren completing his senior year online while training abroad, keeping both his education and his soccer dreams moving forward.

Through it all, April says PlayAbroad was professional, responsive, and there for every step, every question, every bit of reassurance a parent needs when making a decision this big.

At 16, .madrid from North Carolina decided to chase a dream most kids only talk about.

After years with Wake FC, he wanted more, higher competition, real challenges, a shot at going pro.

PlayAbroad didn’t just find him a club abroad, they took the time to understand his goals and built a pathway around his soccer ambitions, education, and personal growth.

Now training alongside Portuguese and Spanish clubs, Darren’s chasing what he came for: sharper tactics, a stronger game, and the level he always wanted to test himself against.

His advice? Stay true to the process, the ups and downs are part of it, and it all comes down to how hard you’re willing to work.
