A little insight into our training lately, and specifically this morning.

Over the past few weeks, one of our key focuses has been how we want to approach each wave.

Starting every wave with big, committed manoeuvres — and finishing it with power, without holding back.

In this training we’re not going out there with the goal of building a base of 5s and 6s.

Instead, we’re looking for every opportunity to score excellent rides — 8+.

Full confidence is a big part of this. Kamiel has been extremely consistent with these big manoeuvres, and the more confidence he has going into them, the lower the risk factor becomes.

Today, we finished the session with two 20-minute heat simulations.

In the first heat, the target was a 10-point combination. Kamiel put together a 6 and an 8 — scores based on today’s conditions and junior surfing, as he is still only 14 years old.

In the second heat, the target was a 14.77 combination. He backed it up with a 6.5 and an 8.5, giving him the win.

Great surfing today — making really difficult conditions look nice and easy.
