El pasado fin de semana, Mark Halsey llevó a su equipo a San Isidro para disputar la Super Copa, donde se enfrentaron los cuatro mejores equipos de la temporada pasada.
Desafortunadamente, OCV solo pudo reunir a once jugadores para este torneo debido a vacaciones, trabajo y lesiones, por lo que siempre iba a ser una tarea muy complicada ante rivales de tanta calidad.
En la semifinal, OCV se enfrentó a Oriol, campeón de liga la pasada temporada, y consiguió darle un susto enorme. Paul Mahoney marcó un magnífico gol individual para poner a OCV por delante, y los chicos tuvieron otras dos grandes oportunidades para sentenciar el partido, pero no consiguieron aprovecharlas.
A unos diez minutos del final, OCV se quedó con diez jugadores. Los chicos dieron todo lo que tenían y parecían estar controlando cómodamente a Oriol, que apenas consiguió poner en peligro a Kinsella en la portería. De hecho, nuestro portero solo tuvo que realizar una gran doble parada en todo el partido.
Sin embargo, el árbitro parecía seguir encontrando minutos adicionales y, en la última jugada del encuentro, tras un córner, Oriol llegó primero al segundo balón y consiguió encontrar el fondo de la red para llevar el partido a los penaltis.
Oriol ganó la tanda de penaltis por 3-2.
El entrenador Mark Halsey se mostró encantado con el esfuerzo de su equipo y consideró que OCV merecía mucho más después de haber llevado a Oriol al límite con solo once jugadores, incluyendo a un portero que tuvo que jugar como delantero improvisado.
En el partido por el tercer y cuarto puesto, OCV se enfrentó a Petrerense.
OCV estuvo magnífico en ataque. Un peligroso córner de Paul Mahoney obligó al portero a intentar mantener el balón fuera de la portería, pero Phil Dewhurst estuvo atento para aprovechar el rechace y marcar.
OCV concedió el empate tras otro córner que fue despejado directamente hacia el jugador que había sacado el córner, quien tuvo todo el tiempo del mundo para encontrar a su delantero y permitirle marcar el 1-1.
OCV volvió a ponerse por delante con un magnífico segundo gol. Paul Mahoney y Sam Broadway combinaron de manera brillante para que Paul pudiera marcar a placer su segundo gol del día.
OCV parecía claramente el mejor equipo en este partido, pero otra mala acción defensiva permitió a Petrer empatar en los últimos minutos.
2-2 fue el resultado final, pero esta vez OCV se impuso en los penaltis por 3-2, con Agus Sanchez realizando la parada decisiva.
Un gran día de fútbol para OCV, con solo 12 jugadores presentes.
El entrenador Mark Halsey quedó extremadamente satisfecho con las actuaciones, la actitud y el esfuerzo de sus jugadores.

Last weekend saw Mark Halsey take his squad to San Isidro to compete in the Super Copa, where the four best teams from the previous season would meet.
Unfortunately OCV could only get eleven players together for this event due to holidays, work and injuries meaning it was always going to be a difficult task against such great opposition.
In the Semi-Final OCV played Oriol last season's league winners and gave them an almighty scare. Paul Mahoney scored a brilliant individual goal to give OCV the lead, and the boys had two other great opportunities to put the game to bed but couldn't manage to take their chances. OCV were reduced to ten men with about ten minutes remaining. The boys dug deep and looked to be comfortably holding out Oriol who didn't trouble Kinsella in the goal much at all, he only had to make one great double save in the whole game, but the referee seemed to keep finding extra minutes, and with the last action of the match, from a corner Oriol got to the second ball first and managed to find the back of the net to take the game to penalties. Oriol won the penalty shoot out 3-2.
Manager Mark Halsey was delighted with his sides efforts, saying they deserved so much better having pushed Oriol so close with only eleven players including a goal keeper playing as a make shift striker.
In the third and fourth place play off, OCV played Petrerlense. OCV were superb in attack, a dangerous corner from Paul Mahoney saw the keeper try to keep the ball out only for Phil Dewhurst to finish the rebound. OCV conceded an equaliser from a corner which was cleared straight to the corner taker who then had all the time in the world to pick out his striker for one one. OCV then scored a brilliant second goal with Paul Mahoney and Sam Broadway combining beautifully to allow Paul Mahoney to tap home his second goal of the day. OCV looked much the better side in this one but some more poor defending allowed Petrer to equalise late on. 2-2 final score, but this time OCV won 3-2 on penalties with Agus Sanchez making the all important save.
Great days football for OCV with only 12 players in attendance. Manager Mark Halsey was extremely pleased with his players performances, attitudes and effort. The season start is only a few weeks away now.
