The seahorse is one of the ocean’s most intriguing, delightful creatures. With their coiling tails and equine features, they decorate and adorn the sea as few animals do. They also have some very unique and fascinating qualities.
Here are things we can learn from the seahorse:

1. Be but

While not aggressive, the seahorse has few predators due to its spiny, bony and tough exterior. They are also able to change colors to blend with a variety of environments. Put on your armor and be tough when necessary, but strive to also flow and harmonize with your surroundings.

2. Be and

Seahorses mate for life and are monogamous. Find your ideal partner and make a commitment to creating a wonderful life together.

3. Raise Children as a Team

While the female creates the eggs, the male seahorse actually carries them to full term. Take a page from seahorse couples and make parenting a team activity.

4. Keep Romance Alive

Seahorses are known for doing a long, elaborate courtship dance (as long as 8 hours) in which they frolic and change colors. They also love to swim as a couple with their tails linked. What can you do to keep the magic and romance alive in your own relationship?

5. Be Open to Positive Experiences

The Ancient Romans and Greeks connected the seahorse to Poseidon, a powerful god of the seas. Many cultures link the seahorse with good fortune. If seahorse starts showing up on your path, take it as a reminder to be strong, flow with the current and approach life as a grand adventure.

HOW MUCH WEIGHT DO YOU NEED?🤔

The right amount of lead on your weight-belt is important to dive comfortably.
You do not want to sink like a rock and use your air to compensate this.
Struggling to go down or holding on to a rock during your safety stop might even be worse.

What variables influence the amount of weight you need?

👉Your body weight/size is one of the main things. Fat is more buoyant (float) than muscle mass so smaller people need less weight in general.

👉What kind of wetsuit you are using. Wetsuits are often made from neoprene which is buoyant. The more neoprene, the thicker and longer the wetsuit, the more buoyant you will be.

👉How salt is the water? Salt gives you buoyancy. There can be a huge difference between a fresh water (lake) and a salt water (ocean) dive. Oceans have differences in salinity as well, the Red Sea is much salter than the Gulf of Thailand for example.

👉What kind of tank are you using? Are you using one or two tanks?
Aluminum tanks are more buoyant than steel tanks.

👉Your experience level. The better you dive and move like a fish, the less air you consume and the less weight compensation you need. Newly certified divers often drop a few kilo's within the first 10-15 dives, depending on how much time is in between the dives.

👉Dive tools and accessories. Divers knife, SMB, torches & accupacks and underwater cameras can influence your buoyancy, especially if you bring a lot. A small GoPro will not make a big difference but think about the huge cameras dive professionals are bringing. The housing can be buoyant because of the air trapped inside, while heavy external strobes/lights can make it sink.
