Beach clean up 18/8/26.
We decided to focus on collecting cigarette butts, while also collecting bigger items. Every item removed from the beach is one less item that can enter the sea.
This clean up was a big community effort organised by Many thanks to all who participated.

We are strong supporters of community actions, such as this, aimed at keeping the Dahab we know and love beautiful. Every bit of trash removed from the land is one less piece of trash that can enter the glorious Red Sea. Sometimes we clean underwater, sometimes above the water. Somewhere between a snow storm and a meteor shower... underwater. This is a common and mesmerising sight at this time of year. I think they are juvenile blue streak fusiliers (Pterocaesio tile) but am happy to be corrected.

An Octopus cyanea (a.k.a. the day or big blue octopus) hanging out in the chest at Lighhouse during a recent underwater clean up dive.
Although octopus can change the colour and texture of their skin to match their surroundings, they can't actually see colour. This species has a wide range, from the Red Sea and East African coast all the way to Hawai'i. Unlike most other octopus species, which are nocturnal, this species is diurnal, although most active at dawn and dusk.
