🇵🇱 Poznan 2026: 4 Medals. 12 Finals.

✅ The senior World Championships are in the books, and it was undeniably the most successful one yet for the athletes and teams we consult at TiP.

👉 We put a lot of work and intention into this season across the board, and it feels like it showed on the water. But what I’m most proud of isn’t just the numbers—it’s how the preparation actually felt.

📈 The build-up was smooth. There were no major hiccups, and we didn’t see the excessive stress or tension that usually surrounds a major event. Things simply ran on their own.

✨ When a season goes that well, you briefly wonder if you just got lucky. But looking back, this kind of flow isn’t luck. It is the direct consequence of an approach and a mindset that are evolving into a highly effective system. It is proof that when your performance architecture is built right, the ex*****on starts to feel natural.

👉 As always, there are lessons to learn. We tested new approaches this season, generated fresh ideas on how to improve, and opened some exciting doors for next year.

🤓 I am more motivated than ever to raise the bar of our coaching and consulting. A huge congratulations to the athletes, coaches, and federations who trusted TiP on this journey. Back to work! 🛶

Superpower #4: Range — why developing range and adaptability is essential for long-term improvement, both in coaching and paddling.

👉 Over the last few weeks, my work on the water has spanned a very wide spectrum again: an emerging 15-year-old from Belgium, a competitive U23 paddler from Italy, online clients ranging from youth to masters, alongside U23 and Senior European and World Champions across five national teams. Above all, I feel genuinely humbled and fortunate for each and every one of these opportunities.

Working across such contrasting profiles constantly tests your coaching model. It challenges your communication, exposes technical blind spots, and prevents your system from becoming rigid. Often, for example, the mechanical solution you discover while helping a beginner find boat balance is the exact cue that helps an elite athlete find extra boat run.
We ask for the exact same adaptability from the athlete.

📈 Real progress requires testing new strategies, stepping outside familiar training routines, and being honest about technical flaws. Range is the superpower: it prevents the coach from becoming dogmatic and makes the athlete antifragile.

📝 Notes from a week of summer training with the Danish team in Copenhagen before their final camp in Italy.

🇩🇰 I just wrapped up a week on the water with the Danish squad. You can tell they put in a lot of good, quiet work in the month following the Montreal World Cup—the boats are moving well and the group looks solid.

💪 Up next for them is a two-week final preparation camp in Pusiano, Italy, before flying straight to Poznań for the World Championships. This was my last stay with the team in Denmark before we meet up again at the regatta course in Poland.

🧘‍♂️ I really enjoyed the simple routine this week, riding my bike to training by the lake, through the park, and past some beautiful neighborhoods. Though mornings can get fresh out in the motorboat—it was so hot at home when I packed that bringing a jacket didn’t even cross my mind.

👉 If your club or national team is looking for consulting support around technique and performance architecture, I still have a few spots open for the 2027–2028 season.

Plans change, but the focus never shifts. 🌊⚡️

Right after the Montreal World Cup, life required a quick pivot. My wife wasn’t feeling well, so I needed to stay close to home and put family first. That meant adjusting my travel plans and postponing my scheduled visit to Team Denmark—a tricky call to make on short notice, but sometimes the timeline gets rewritten for you.

💫 The silver lining was an unexpected, deeply focused three-week block on Lake Bohinj. We logged some incredible, high-value sessions on the water with Aimee Fisher, Finn Murphy, and coach Emily Willock (NZL), alongside Anja Osterman, Anže Pikon, and Matevž Manfreda (SLO) as everyone dials in for the World Championships in late August.

👉 As soon as I could, I flew out to Denmark to make good on that missed visit. It’s wild how quickly a flight drops you onto a completely different lake, yet the drive, the ex*****on, and the World Champs focus feel identical. Different waters, same elite mindset.

Reassuring to see every squad firing on all cylinders and doing so well nevertheless. And summertime paddling in Copenhagen? Hard to beat. 🇩🇰☀️

In a hyper-connected world, the ability to be truly alone—stripped of distraction, external validation, and noise—is one of the rarest competitive advantages an athlete can cultivate.

👉 For the paddler, solitude isn’t merely a byproduct of long hours on the water; it is the primary training ground.

1. Physical & Mental Solitude
True solitude goes beyond paddling in an empty lane. It is the capacity to be physically alone without reaching for stimulation, and completely at peace inside your own head. When the external environment goes quiet, the internal dialogue gets loud. If you haven’t learned to tolerate your thoughts during routine base miles, you will struggle when the pressure rises.

2. Solitude in a Crowd
Mental independence means being completely comfortable with your thoughts and identity even when surrounded by noise—in a bustling team hotel, a crowded warm-up area, or on the starting grid. You don’t need external chatter to anchor you because your internal anchor is already set.

3. Facing the Internal Landscape
Being alone forces you to face what is actually there: your self-talk, quiet worries, and performance predictions. Your internal dialogue is either moving your boat forward or slowing it down. Solitude gives you the mirror you need to listen, correct, and master it.

4. The Sanctuary of Long Blocks
Uninterrupted time alone in training—stroke after stroke, breath after breath—transforms physical volume into mental resilience. Long miles aren’t just building an aerobic engine; they are a rehearsal for the psychological isolation of elite competition.

5. The Ultimate Test: The Start Line
You feel this most acutely when you settle into your block. In that final minute, the noise of coaches and crowds fades away. The starting dock strips away every excuse—you are always alone on the line. If you haven’t practiced comfort in solitude, that isolation will fracture your focus before the blade hits the water.

🔥 In high-performance sport, what you practice in solitude doesn’t just build your engine—it builds the mental quiet you rely on when the pressure peaks.

A fast-paced, deeply rewarding week in Montreal for the World Cup went by in a blink. 💫

🇺🇸 This trip was dedicated to working on-site with Team USA and their women’s sprint squad. It was a true honor to collaborate with such passionate, driven athletes. In a system where sprint kayaking is not a fully funded professional sport and a significant portion of career financing comes straight out of the athletes' own pockets, their work ethic and grit are inspiring. Having built a solid foundation with them through remote work, stepping onto the water together in Canada felt very smooth.

👉 Modern high-performance consulting naturally means managing focus across several distinct national programs. Balancing my work with Team USA alongside the other setups I consult for—the Danish squad, the Slovenian men, Aimee Fisher, and the Mexican ladies—requires clear boundaries and total dedication. Delivering the best possible service means giving 100% of your focus to the athlete in front of you, regardless of the cap they wear.

⚙ Adapting to such varied needs—from performance architecture and biomechanical metrics to full periodization and hands-on 1:1 sessions—forces me onto a steep learning curve. Far from being a compromise, this cross-exposure sharpens my coaching intuition, ultimately making me better equipped to deliver value to every single team in the fold.

🫶 Grateful for the trust, the challenge, and the opportunity to work alongside world-class athletes on the big stage.

🧐 If you look at your training log and compare it to an Olympic champion’s, the difference isn’t what most people think. The differentiator is rarely a handful of heroic, spectacular days. It’s just consistent, solid work over a very long timeframe.

👉 As Brad Stulberg often points out, the real goal isn’t to be consistently great—it’s to be great at being consistent. It’s consistency over intensity, fundamentals over fads.

💪 That means showing up every day, rain or shine. It’s learning to do what is right for the vision, not just what feels good in the moment. When you stick to the path, you accept that progress is slow most of the time. The breakthroughs and jumps in performance? They usually arrive unexpected, built quietly on the days you simply chose to put your head down and work.

🤜🤛 For both athletes and coaches, this is where real self-trust is forged. It’s viewing failure not as a setback, but as a necessary part of the process and our sharpest teacher. When you realize the medal is just the finish line, not the purpose, you see the truth: the discipline you build every day is the actual superpower.

😎 Show up. Do the work. Leave the excuses behind, stay coachable and, curios, and find the positives in the daily grind. Day in, day out. That’s how lasting success is built.

A gorgeous, sun-drenched week in Copenhagen tracking work with the Danish national team. 🇩🇰⚡️

Europeans are done. Montreal World Cup is the next immediate target. No complacency, just a collective drive to refine the architecture of their performance and reach higher.

Big goals require quiet, consistent work. Next stop: Canada. 🇨🇦
