💭 We say it. We hear it. But do we actually feel it?

“Use the floor.” “Stay grounded.” “Push down.” These cues travel through every tango class. But for many of us, they live in the head, not the body. The difference between knowing the word and experiencing the feeling can change everything: how heavy or light your movement is, how free both partners feel, how powerful the simplest step becomes.

This week at Tango Garden, we welcome Ina Greiner (Ina Greiner ) for a session on finding the ground in both roles. Through her own insights and embodied exercises, Ina will help you close the gap between concept and sensation.

We start at 7:30 with warm-up exercises, then Ina takes over for her 30-minute session. Afterwards we continue with the guided open practica. Practice, experiment, exchange ideas, have fun and some snacks in between songs.

From the Floor to the Embrace. 🫂

Every movement in tango starts from the floor, but it shouldn’t stop in your torso. This Wednesday, Kristina takes the floor to explore how spiral movement flows through the entire body and reaches your partner through the embrace.

Using ochos and simple rotational movements, you’ll discover how continuous spiral movement can make your dance feel clearer, more connected and more comfortable for both partners.

Media Luna is built from just three basic tango steps. And yet its simplicity holds a special power — and a wealth of possibilities

This Wednesday, we welcome Patrick Buchin to take us through the mechanics of this combination and to develop improvisations guided by the level of the group.

Warm-up, guided practica and snacks.

🌿 This week at The Garden Practica, Vangelis Theodorakis (Vangelis Theodorakis) will take the floor for a session on one of tango’s most essential musical tools: the marcato.

What is a marcato? How many types are there? And how can we start using them to actually follow the music rather than just the steps?

This session is an introduction to musicality. Practical, accessible, and relevant for every level.

🕰️ We start at 19:30 with warm-up and technique drills, then Vangelis takes over for his session, followed by the guided open practica. Practice, experiment, exchange ideas, have fun and some snacks between songs.

🌿 This week at The Garden Practica, we welcome Dima Suharev (Dima Suharev ) — a long-time dancer and teacher from Heidelberg.

He will lead a session on the melodic counterplay of ochos with the rhythmic rock step (Wiege). You’ll learn how a small change of direction can turn one figure into three, and how to follow the music instead of a sequence of steps.

🕰️ We start at 19:30 with warm-up and technique drills, then Dima takes over for his session, followed by the guided open practica. Practice, experiment, exchange ideas, have fun and some snacks between songs.

Last week we finished our first beginner course at Tango Garden 🎉

Over the last months, we’ve worked on walking, connection, musicality, navigation, and all the little things that make social dancing possible.

And now our first group is ready for the next step: their first milongas 💃

We’re looking forward to meeting them on dance floors in Cologne and beyond!

The course may be over, but the learning doesn’t stop here. We’ll still be around at our practicas, every Wednesday, to answer questions and support your tango journey. For those who would like to dive deeper into a specific topic, private lessons are always an option too.

As for beginner classes, we’re taking a little summer break and will start a new group in September. Before then, there will be opportunities to try tango with us, so stay tuned 🌿

🌿 Tomorrow is our very first Wednesday practica! And we’re happy to welcome Denis Eickmeier (Denis Eickmeier) to lead a session on dynamic change of direction.

And yes, we know it’s going to be hot tomorrow. 🥵 Good news: our space is on the ground floor with a cool inner courtyard, so it stays cooler than the streets outside. We’ll also have a fan running, just in case.

🐾 Bonus: our recently adopted, soon-to-be-a-tango dog Kiko will be joining too. She’s a sweetheart, come say hi.

🕰️ We start at 19:30 with Denis’s session, followed by the guided open practica. Practice, experiment, exchange ideas, have fun and some snacks between songs.
