BASEMENT is a temporary art work situation. It is an opportunity to open their “basements” and to give visibility to what usually remains unspoken publicly.
BASEMENT* is an event choreographed by Sandro Amaral and Thiago Granato, each time in collaboration with a different group of artists - a temporary situation with the intention of creating proximity between the artists, their work and the public. The interest is to experiment with different possibilities of sharing, as well as to question the conditions that normally organize the experience of tho
se involved in the creation, presentation and circulation of contemporary choreographic works. The project gives the possibility to the artists invited to share their works and to talk in an intimate context about their artistic practices and priorities. In the beginning of the evening, each artist welcomes each spectator individually, for a 10 minutes face-to-face talk. In this context, the artists share processes, ideas and/or methodologies linked to their performances. Parallel to the talks, a selection of videos made by the artists are projected in the video room. Each artist has chosen one or more videos that is related to the works that they will be presenting later in the evening. It is another change for you to get closer to their process. The public has the opportunity to maneuver between these situations following their own interests into a potential self-organized social choreography. The evening finishes with each artist presenting a work for all the visitors simultaneously.
