Yei Joint Stars: A Historic CAF Champions League Journey

Yei Joint Stars FC may have fallen short in the semi-final, but their CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers campaign will be remembered as a historic one for South Sudanese women’s football.

The national cup champions went unbeaten through the group stage, recording two wins and a draw: a 3–0 victory over Denden, a 1–0 win against Mafunzo, and a 1–1 draw with Rayon Sports.

That run earned Yei Joint Stars their first-ever semi-final appearance in the competition.

They eventually suffered a 5–0 defeat to Kenya Police Bullets, bringing their campaign to an end.

Despite the final setback, Yei Joint Stars have raised the bar and shown what is possible when South Sudanese women’s clubs get the opportunity to compete on the regional stage.

We are not trying to take players away from clubs. We are trying to make sure their work on the pitch is not forgotten.

And for now, we are doing this because we believe South Sudanese football deserves better documentation.
