It’s the people who make the difference.
Every week our Mat gets a little bigger, and honestly, that’s something we’re really proud of.
Yes, it’s free, and we believe Open Mats should stay accessible to everyone. But more importantly, it’s the people who make the difference. The atmosphere that Leonardo Ramirez (and me :D, jk) and everyone on the mats create is one of respect, learning, healthy competition and support.
One of my favourite moments today wasn’t a roll. It was seeing higher belts come over and say hello to a young girl sitting on the side, supporting her dad. They didn’t know her, but they made her feel welcome. That’s the kind of culture we’re trying to build—where everyone belongs, regardless of age, belt colour or background.
Thank you to everyone who keeps showing up and making this community what it is.
We’re already looking forward to moving into the bigger tatami soon and hopefully welcoming twice as many people while keeping the same friendly vibe.
