WHAT IF YOU’VE BEEN WAITING AN ETERNITY FOR THIS LIFE?
Sometimes, when life feels heavy, I imagine something.
What if my soul had been waiting for an eternity to become human?
I don’t know if that’s true. No one does. But I like to imagine that somewhere, before we were born, we knew what it meant to come here — to Earth. To this strange place where you can feel everything so deeply.
Because here, there is taste. Scent. Touch. Cold and warmth. The wind against your face. Hot sand beneath your feet. The first sip of coffee in the morning. Music that makes your skin tingle. The sea you can throw yourself into fully clothed. Snow you can catch in your hands. Cities you have never been to, and roads you have never yet travelled.
Here, you can laugh until you cry, and cry until you feel as though you will never smile again.
You can love. You can lose. You can be afraid. You can be disappointed. You can be angry at the whole world. And then, one day, you can wake up and suddenly want something again.
Maybe that is what makes Earth so special.
Here, there are opposites.
Not only light, but darkness. Not only joy, but pain. Not only meetings, but goodbyes. Not only successes, but those moments when everything you have built falls apart and you have to decide what you are going to do from there.
And perhaps because we know one, we can truly feel the other.
What would joy look like if we had never been sad?
What would courage mean if we had never felt fear?
How would we understand the value of a meeting if nothing ever came to an end?
And the most incredible thing is that here, we are not merely spectators.
We can create.
Something may exist only inside your mind this morning, and a year later it could become a book, a painting, a home, a song, a company, a discovery, a new method, or an idea that changes someone else’s life.
Just think how extraordinary that is.
To imagine something that doesn’t exist — and then make it real.
You can learn something you didn’t know yesterday. You can travel towards a place you have never seen. You can meet someone who, after a single conversation, changes the direction of your life. You can discover a whole new world on the other side of the planet — or sometimes, within yourself.
And you can change.
You are not condemned to remain, until the end of your life, the person you were yesterday.
You can begin again. Choose differently. Let go of an old dream and create a new one. You can fall so low that you become convinced everything is over, only to realise years later that this was exactly where another chapter of your life began.
And sometimes, we forget all of this.
We wait for real life to begin when we have the money, the love, the success, the right body, the free time, the recognition, the security.
And while we wait for a life without lack, we miss the life that is already here — with all its colours.
Maybe we didn’t come here to be happy all the time.
Maybe we came here to be alive.
To feel the whole spectrum. To try. To make mistakes. To discover. To create. To experience things that could never be understood through thought alone.
I don’t know whether my soul was really waiting somewhere.
But sometimes I imagine it looking down at Earth and saying:
“Just give me one human life. I want to know what it feels like.”
And then my problems don’t disappear. My losses don’t stop hurting. My empty spaces don’t magically turn into abundance.
But I remember something important.
I have what, in this story, my soul waited an eternity for.
One human life.
And while I have it, there is still something I haven’t seen.
Something I haven’t learned.
Something I haven’t felt.
Something that doesn’t exist yet — and perhaps is waiting for me to bring it into being.
