25. novembar obeležava kao Međunarodni dan borbe protiv nasilja nad ženama. Prvi put je ustanovljen 25. novembra 1981. godine u Bogoti, u znak sećanja na sestre Mirabel koje su brutalno ubijene u Dominikanskoj Republici 1960. godine. Datum su prihvatile Ujedinjene nacije 1990. godine, kada je službeno potvrđen kao "međunarodni dan eliminacije nasilja nad ženama".
Na taj dan Ujedinjene nacije, vlade i humanitarne organizacije širom sveta pozivaju sve društvene aktere da se uključe u aktivnost čiji je cilj da se spreči nasilje nad ženama. Inače, ženska ljudska prava su neodvojivi deo univerzalnih ljudskih prava i u skladu sa svim međunarodnim dokumentima ta prava moraju da budu garantovana, poštovana i zaštićena pri čemu je važno prepoznavanje i sprečavanje diskriminacije žena.
I ove 2019. godine, Međunarodnim danom borbe protiv nasilja nad ženama, započinje svetska kampanja "16 dana aktivizma protiv nasilja nad ženama", a koja završava 10. decembra na Međunarodni dan ljudskih prava, čime se ističe da je nasilje nad ženama kršenje temeljnih ljudskih prava. Kampanju inače obeležava 1700 organizacija u preko 100 država sveta.
Republika Srbija kao članica UN, Saveta Evrope i drugih međunarodnih organizacija i potpisnica niza međunarodnih dokumenata, a u cilju ostvarivanja ravnopravnosti polova sprovodi određene međunarodne propis

The Republic of Serbia, as a member of the UN, the Council of Europe and other international organizations and signatories to a number of international instruments, and in order to achieve gender equality, implements certain international regulations
